There is no universal button sequence for resetting a digital watch. First identify its make and model or module number, then follow that watch’s operation guide. A settings reset and a reset after replacing a battery are different procedures, and using the wrong one can erase information or damage the watch.
Find your watch’s exact reset instructions
- Identify the watch. Look for its model name or number on the case, case back, packaging, or in its existing paperwork. Some manufacturers also identify watches by module number.
- Open the operation guide for that exact model or module. Casio’s manual finder lets you look up a product-specific guide. If you cannot identify the watch or locate its instructions, contact the manufacturer’s support channel rather than trying a button combination from a different model.
- Check what the reset changes and any restrictions. Read the warnings in the guide before confirming; a reset may be irreversible or remove saved information.
What a model-specific settings reset looks like
Casio module 3475 illustrates why the exact guide matters. Its instructions say to enter Timekeeping Mode, hold A for at least two seconds, move to RESET ALL SETTINGS, select EXECUTE, confirm YES, and wait for the AC indicator, which signals completion. Press A to clear the AC indicator afterward. These steps apply to module 3475 only; they are not instructions for other Casio watches or other brands. See the official module 3475 guide.
Check the module 3475 warnings first
- The guide says reset is unavailable when the battery indicator is at its specified low threshold or below, or while Airplane Mode is enabled.
- The reset cannot be undone: the guide warns that pre-reset settings cannot be restored.
- The reset deletes smartphone pairing information, so the watch is unpaired from the phone.
Even watches from the same manufacturer can use different controls. Casio module 3568 also has a reset menu, but its navigation and confirmation buttons differ from module 3475. Consult the official module 3568 guide rather than borrowing another model’s sequence.
If the problem started after a battery replacement
A battery-change reset is not the same as restoring settings through a watch menu. The Timex W209 manual says, “If present, push/short internal reset switch after replacing battery.” The qualification matters: it applies only if that reset switch is present and the manual is for the watch being serviced. If the watch has been opened and the manual does not clearly identify a reset point, do not guess which contacts to touch or short. Ask the manufacturer or a qualified watch repairer for guidance. The cited manuals do not establish a safe contact-short procedure that applies to every digital watch.
