For the documented OMEGA Speedmaster Reduced reference 3510.50.00, winding and setting are straightforward: leave the crown fully pushed in (position 1) when winding, pull it to position 2 to set the time, then push it back to position 1 to restart and synchronize the seconds hand. The watch uses OMEGA calibre 3220, an automatic movement with a stated 40-hour power reserve. If it has been unworn for 45 hours or more, OMEGA’s instructions call for occasional winding in position 1. Start and stop the chronograph with pusher A, and press pusher B to reset only after timing has stopped.
This procedure is specifically for reference 3510.50.00. A different Reduced reference may use another calibre, crown arrangement or complication, so verify the reference and use its matching OMEGA manual before operating it.

The instructions below apply to the steel Speedmaster Reduced reference 3510.50.00. OMEGA lists this model with a 39 mm case, self-winding calibre 3220, a 40-hour power reserve and 3 bar (30 metres/100 feet) water resistance. OMEGA’s current product information marks the reference as no longer available, but ownership, setting and servicing questions remain relevant for watches already in circulation.
Reference identification matters because “Speedmaster Reduced” describes a family rather than one universal specification. Check the reference engraved on the watch or its paperwork. If it is not 3510.50.00, consult OMEGA’s reference-specific manual lookup instead of assuming that every crown position or movement detail is identical.

The figures above are OMEGA’s published technical data for this reference; they are not a guarantee that an older individual watch still meets its original water-resistance rating. Seals, gaskets and case condition can change with age, which is why OMEGA recommends periodic checks.
How do I wind an Omega Speedmaster Reduced?
Keep the crown fully pushed against the case, in position 1, and wind the watch from there. OMEGA’s operating instructions place calibre 3220 in its self-winding chronograph group and specify occasional winding in position 1 when the watch has not been worn for 45 hours or more.
- Confirm the crown is in position 1. It should be pushed back against the case, not pulled out to the time-setting position.
- Turn the crown to wind the movement. The instructions do not publish a required number of turns, so do not rely on an internet turn-count rule as if it were an OMEGA specification.
- Return the crown firmly against the case. Keeping it pushed in is important for the watch’s intended case sealing.
- Check that the watch is running. If it had stopped, observe the seconds hand after winding. If it does not resume or quickly stops again, stop forcing the crown and arrange an inspection by OMEGA or an appropriately qualified service centre.
Because calibre 3220 is self-winding, wearing the watch supplies winding through normal wrist motion. Crown winding is the documented way to give it power after a long period off the wrist; it does not change the movement into a manual-wind calibre.
How many turns should I wind it?
OMEGA states when to wind this calibre group—after 45 or more hours unworn—but does not give a turn count in the cited operating instructions. Use that timing guidance rather than inventing a number. If the crown feels abnormal, rough or blocked, do not apply extra force; have the watch examined.
What is the difference between the 40-hour reserve and the 45-hour instruction?
The 40-hour figure is the stated power-reserve specification for the watch. The 45-hour wording is OMEGA’s trigger for “occasional winding” when the watch has been unworn; it is a care instruction, not a claim that every watch will run for exactly 45 hours. An individual watch’s actual running time can be affected by its condition and service history.
How do I set the time on the Speedmaster Reduced?
Pull the crown to position 2 to set the time. In this position the seconds hand stops, allowing synchronization; push the crown back to position 1 to restart the movement.

- ELEGANT CARBON FIBER DESIGN: Made of high-quality PU leather with a transparent acrylic window. The smooth PU leather interior reliably protects your mechanical watches from scratches. A stylish eye-catcher and the perfect presentation for your valuable watch collection.
- IMPORTANT SIZE COMPATIBILITY (PLEASE CHECK): To ensure smooth operation and prevent motor damage, this dual watch winder is designed for watches with the following maximum dimensions: Dial diameter under 47 mm, case thickness under 28 mm, and strap circumference under 175-195 mm. It can accommodate large watches, but cannot simultaneously hold two mechanical watches with a dial diameter of 58 mm with crown. Please measure your watch before purchasing.
- OPERATING PRINCIPLE: A watch winder serves exclusively to maintain the power reserve and simulates the natural movement of the wrist. It CANNOT wind a completely stopped watch from zero. Important: Please manually wind the crown of your watch approx 20-40 times before placing it in the winder. It CANNOT start or wind a completely stopped watch from zero. We also recommend manually checking the time once a week.
- INTELLIGENT INTERVAL ROTATION: Programmed with pauses to prevent over-winding. Mode B: 2 min clockwise, 6 min pause, 2 min counterclockwise. Mode L: 2 min counterclockwise, 18 min pause, 2 min clockwise. (If you see the winder rotate and then stop, this is the programmed pause — NOT a malfunction. Please wait through the full pause period (6 min for Mode B, 18 min for Mode L) )You can switch the device off when not in use.(Speed: 970-2430 TPD. Automatic watches only. NOT for Quartz, Seiko Kinetic, or Citizen Eco-Drive).
- CONSTANT POWER SUPPLY (NO BATTERY): Please note that this device does not have a built-in battery and must be permanently connected to a power source (3V~9V, 0.5A) during operation. A connection cable is included (power adapter NOT included). Multiple watch winders can be conveniently connected in series via the cable to save space and power outlets.
- Pull the crown gently to position 2. Do not try to set the time with the crown fully pushed in.
- Turn the crown forwards or backwards until the hour and minute hands show the required time. OMEGA’s instructions permit both directions for this setting operation.
- Use a reference time if precise synchronization matters. Align the displayed time, then wait for the reference seconds to reach your chosen mark.
- Push the crown back to position 1. This synchronizes and restarts the seconds hand according to OMEGA’s operating instructions.
The seconds hand stopping while the crown is in position 2 is expected behavior, not evidence that the movement has failed. If it does not restart after the crown is returned to position 1, first confirm that the crown is fully seated; persistent failure warrants professional service.
What if the crown will not pull out or will not seat?
Do not twist or force a crown that resists normal movement. A crown that cannot be moved to the expected position, or that will not sit against the case afterward, should be assessed by OMEGA or a qualified watchmaker before the watch is exposed to moisture. Until it is checked, treat the case seal as unconfirmed.
How do I operate the chronograph?
The two chronograph pushers have separate functions. Pusher A starts and stops timing; pusher B resets the chronograph after it has stopped.
| Control | Function | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Pusher A | Starts timing | Press once to begin a chronograph measurement. |
| Pusher A | Stops timing | Press again to end the measurement. |
| Pusher B | Resets the chronograph | Press only after the chronograph has been stopped. |
Can I reset the chronograph while it is running?
No. OMEGA’s operating instructions specify pusher B for resetting after the chronograph has stopped. Use pusher A to stop the timing first, then press pusher B to return the chronograph indication to its reset position. Do not treat pusher B as a shortcut for ending an active measurement.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Confirm that timing has actually stopped before pressing pusher B. If the hands do not return to their reset positions, or a pusher feels unusually stiff, avoid repeated presses and do not attempt to correct the mechanism by force; a service professional should inspect it.
What should I do if my Speedmaster Reduced has stopped?
A stopped 3510.50.00 may simply have exhausted its available power after being off the wrist. Put the crown in position 1 and wind it as described above. Once running, set the time with the crown in position 2 and return it to position 1.

Do not infer a fault merely from the watch stopping after a period off the wrist: OMEGA gives the calibre a 40-hour stated reserve and specifically instructs occasional winding after 45 or more hours unworn. A watch that stops soon after winding, refuses to restart, or behaves inconsistently needs assessment rather than an improvised winding count or repeated force.
Should I use an automatic watch winder?
OMEGA’s customer-service guidance says a winder can help keep an automatic watch within its calibre power-reserve specifications when it is not being worn. That guidance does not publish a winding program for calibre 3220, so select a device only if you can follow its instructions without claiming a specific turns-per-day setting from OMEGA.
How do I protect the watch’s water resistance?
OMEGA lists the 3510.50.00 at 3 bar, equivalent to 30 metres or 100 feet, but the chronograph pushers should not be operated underwater. Keep the crown pushed against the case after winding or setting, and do not press either chronograph pusher while the watch is submerged or wet.
- After adjustment: verify that the crown is back in position 1 and seated against the case.
- During water exposure: leave the chronograph controls alone; never start, stop or reset it underwater.
- After a crown or pusher problem: have the watch checked before relying on its water resistance.
- For routine care: follow OMEGA’s recommendation for an annual water-resistance check.
The 3 bar rating is a published specification for the reference, not proof that an older example remains sealed today. Water resistance is not permanent and can be affected by seal wear, impact, opening the case or incorrect crown seating.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When should the watch be serviced?
OMEGA recommends having water resistance checked every year and a full service performed every 5 to 8 years. Those intervals are care guidance from OMEGA, not a substitute for action when a specific symptom appears.
Arrange attention sooner if you notice:
- The watch will not run after reasonable winding in position 1.
- The seconds hand repeatedly stops much earlier than expected.
- The crown cannot be moved normally or will not seat against the case.
- A chronograph pusher sticks, feels damaged or fails to start, stop or reset the function.
- The watch has been exposed to water while the crown was not seated, or the case has suffered an impact.
Use OMEGA’s authorised service network or a watchmaker qualified to work on the specific movement. Tell the service provider the exact reference, calibre if known, symptoms and any recent water exposure or impact; those details help determine the appropriate inspection.

What should owners of other Speedmaster Reduced references do?
Do not transfer this procedure automatically to another reference. Before winding or setting a different Reduced model, verify its reference-specific manual and compare the documented movement, crown positions, complications, power reserve and water-resistance rating.
| Check before operating another reference | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Reference number | “Reduced” is a family designation, not a single universal specification. |
| Movement calibre | Operating instructions are written for a particular calibre or calibre group. |
| Crown positions | Do not assume another watch uses the same two-position arrangement. |
| Complications | A date or other display can change the setting procedure and safe-setting times. |
| Power reserve and water resistance | Use the rating and care schedule documented for that exact reference. |
If the reference is unclear, photograph the case-back markings and paperwork and ask OMEGA or an authorised service centre to identify it before operating unfamiliar controls.
A quick operating checklist
- Confirm the watch is reference 3510.50.00, or obtain the correct manual for the actual reference.
- For winding, keep the crown fully pushed in at position 1.
- If the watch has been unworn for 45 hours or more, wind it in position 1; no official turn count is specified.
- For time setting, pull the crown to position 2; the seconds hand should stop.
- Turn the crown forwards or backwards to set the time.
- Push the crown to position 1 to synchronize and restart the movement.
- Use pusher A to start and stop the chronograph.
- Use pusher B to reset only after the chronograph has stopped.
- Keep the crown seated and never operate chronograph pushers underwater.
- Schedule an annual water-resistance check and a full service every 5 to 8 years, or sooner if a fault appears.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the 40-hour power reserve a guarantee for every Speedmaster Reduced?
It is OMEGA’s stated reserve for the documented 3510.50.00 specification, not a guarantee that every older example will achieve that figure today. Wear, lubrication, magnetism, damage and service condition can affect an individual watch’s running time.
Can I leave the chronograph running all day?
The operating instructions define how to start, stop and reset the function but do not provide an endurance limit for continuous timing. For an unusual or extended measurement, follow OMEGA’s manual and seek service advice rather than assuming that a general chronograph rule applies.
