How to set up LTE and activate a cellular plan on the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra

To use cellular service on a Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, you need the LTE version, a compatible Android phone with an active SIM or eSIM and internet access, and a carrier plan that supports the watch. Pair the watch in Galaxy Wearable, then open Watch settings > Mobile plans and follow the carrier’s enrollment and eSIM prompts. After activation, switch off Bluetooth on the phone and place a call or send a message to verify that the watch connects by itself.

The exact plan name, number-sharing behavior, price, taxes, eligibility rules and QR-code process depend on your country and carrier. Samsung’s US guidance lists AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon as examples, but it does not mean every carrier or prepaid account supports Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE.

What do I need before activating LTE on Galaxy Watch Ultra?

Gather the hardware, phone and account requirements before opening the activation screen. Missing any of these can make Mobile plans disappear or cause the carrier enrollment to fail.

An LTE Galaxy Watch Ultra

Check the model label and packaging. Bluetooth-only versions do not contain the cellular hardware and will not show the LTE activation path. If you are buying a watch specifically for independent calls, messages and data, choose the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE model for your region; LTE bands and carrier approval vary by market.

A compatible Android phone

Samsung specifies Android 5.0 or later and at least 1.5 GB of phone RAM for the activation process. Install the current Galaxy Wearable app, and keep the phone connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data throughout pairing and provisioning.

An active SIM or eSIM in the phone

Samsung’s activation requirements include a SIM inserted in the companion phone. The phone can use a physical SIM or an eSIM, but it must have working service and an internet connection so the carrier can verify the account. A watch plan generally extends or shares the phone’s service rather than replacing the phone line.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A carrier account that supports smartwatch service

Contact the carrier if you are unsure whether your account qualifies. Ask specifically about a Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE companion, MultiSIM or Number Share plan, whether the watch shares the phone number, and whether prepaid, business or family accounts are eligible. Plan availability and monthly charges are country-specific and are not stated in Samsung’s general setup instructions.

Charging and account credentials

Charge the watch before setup so a restart or eSIM download is not interrupted. Have the Samsung and Google account credentials requested by the first-run wizard available. If a carrier asks for a QR code, obtain it from that carrier rather than using a code intended for another device.

How do I pair the Galaxy Watch Ultra with my Android phone?

Pairing creates the companion connection that Galaxy Wearable uses to discover and provision the watch’s cellular service.

  1. Charge the watch, power it on and keep it close to the phone.
  2. Install and open Galaxy Wearable on the Android phone.
  3. Tap Start, select Galaxy Watch Ultra and allow Bluetooth and other requested permissions.
  4. Compare the passkey shown on both devices. Confirm it when the codes match.
  5. Complete the Samsung and Google account prompts, accept the setup terms and allow the watch to finish its initial software and settings configuration.
  6. Keep the phone online until the home screen appears in Galaxy Wearable. If the phone displays a carrier or mobile-plan prompt during first setup, continue through it; some carrier flows can add the plan at this stage.

Verizon’s documented flow requires an active companion phone and, for Number Share, the phone and eSIM activation to be on the same Verizon account. Other carriers may use a different account check or ask you to sign in on a carrier webpage.

How do I activate a cellular plan in Galaxy Wearable?

Once pairing is complete, the standard path is Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Mobile plans. On some app versions, you can reach the same area from the Home tab by selecting the watch and then opening its settings.

  1. Open Galaxy Wearable on the paired Android phone.
  2. Tap Watch settings (or open the watch’s settings from the Home tab).
  3. Select Mobile plans.
  4. Wait while the app searches for an eligible cellular network. Keep Wi-Fi or mobile data enabled and do not close the app during the search.
  5. Choose the carrier option presented by the app. Follow the carrier’s prompts to add a new watch line or attach the watch to your phone’s existing account.
  6. Review the plan’s recurring charge, taxes, number-sharing terms, data and messaging features, and any activation fee before accepting.
  7. When prompted, authorize the eSIM download. The watch may restart while the cellular profile is installed.

AT&T’s device-specific instructions use the same Watch settings > Mobile plans route and require a SIM or eSIM in the paired phone. The wording and screens can differ by carrier and country, so follow the prompts shown for your account rather than assuming that another carrier’s steps apply.

Do I need an eSIM or a QR code for Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE?

The watch uses an embedded SIM (eSIM) for cellular activation. Many carriers provision it directly through Galaxy Wearable; some AT&T and Verizon flows can require a carrier-issued QR code or display one during enrollment.

When the carrier supplies a QR code

Use only the code issued for this watch and account, and scan or enter it exactly where the carrier’s instructions specify. Samsung warns that resetting the watch or resetting its mobile network can invalidate the previous provisioning; you may need a new QR code after either reset. Do not assume a code can be reused after a failed or completed activation.

When no QR code appears

A direct in-app eSIM download is normal. Keep the watch charged, leave the phone online and wait for the app to confirm completion. Samsung Germany describes an eSIM activation window of approximately two to five minutes; the watch may restart and should show an LTE or 4G indicator when service is ready.

How can I verify that LTE works without the phone?

A successful download is not proof that the watch has registered on the network. Perform an independent connection check after activation.

  1. Leave the watch near the phone until the activation confirmation appears.
  2. On the phone, turn off Bluetooth. If the watch still shows a phone connection through Wi-Fi, move away from that Wi-Fi network or disable Wi-Fi on the watch for a stricter cellular test.
  3. Check the watch’s status area for an LTE or 4G indicator and adequate signal.
  4. Place a call or send a message from the watch. Use a contact who can confirm receipt, and keep the test brief if your plan has limited allowances.
  5. Turn Bluetooth back on after the test if you want normal companion syncing, notifications and battery behavior.

Samsung describes LTE models as able to receive calls and messages without being tethered to a smartphone. Whether data-heavy apps, emergency calling, international roaming or video features work depends on the carrier plan and local network.

How do carrier plans differ for Galaxy Watch Ultra?

Do not choose solely by the carrier’s advertised monthly price. Compare the service terms that determine how the watch behaves after pairing, resets and account changes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Comparison point What to confirm Evidence available in the setup guidance
Country and network support Is the exact Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE model approved on the carrier’s network in your country? Support is carrier- and country-specific; a universal list is not stated.
Phone-number arrangement Does the watch share the phone’s number, receive a separate number, or use a carrier-specific companion service? Verizon’s documented option uses Number Share; other arrangements are not stated.
Account eligibility Are prepaid, family, business and recently opened accounts accepted? Eligibility rules vary by carrier and are not stated universally.
eSIM and QR process Is the profile downloaded in Galaxy Wearable, or must you obtain a QR code? AT&T and Verizon may request a carrier-issued QR code; direct downloads are also supported.
Monthly cost and taxes What recurring charge, activation fee, taxes and promotional conditions apply? Prices and fees are not stated in Samsung’s general activation instructions.
Calling, messaging and data Which services work when Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are unavailable, and are there usage limits? LTE enables independent calls and messages; feature limits depend on the plan.
After a reset or repair Will the eSIM remain, and will the carrier require a new QR code or re-provisioning? Samsung warns that a reset of the watch or mobile network requires a new QR code when a QR-code flow is used.
Changing carriers Can the watch be released and reactivated on another compatible network? Carrier-specific release and eligibility rules are not stated; ask the new carrier before switching.

Verizon Number Share considerations

Verizon’s setup documentation describes Number Share with an active companion phone on the same account and eSIM activation before the mobile-plan step. If the phone and watch are on different accounts, or the phone line is suspended, that documented path may not complete.

AT&T enrollment considerations

AT&T’s Galaxy Watch Ultra instructions direct customers to the Mobile plans screen and require the paired phone to have a physical SIM or eSIM. The carrier may ask for account authentication and a QR code; follow the current prompts shown for your line.

Other carriers and prepaid service

Samsung’s general instructions do not guarantee support outside the named examples. A carrier can support the watch hardware but still exclude a particular plan type, region, roaming arrangement or prepaid account. Confirm compatibility using the watch’s exact model number and your phone line before paying an activation fee.

Why does Mobile plans not appear in Galaxy Wearable?

The missing menu usually indicates a hardware, pairing, software or eligibility issue rather than a hidden LTE switch. Work through these checks in order.

  • Confirm the model: Bluetooth-only Galaxy Watch Ultra units do not have the cellular menu.
  • Finish pairing: The watch must be fully paired in Galaxy Wearable, not merely visible in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
  • Update the app and watch: Install available Galaxy Wearable and watch software updates, then reopen the app.
  • Check the phone: Samsung specifies Android 5.0 or later, at least 1.5 GB RAM, an active SIM and an internet connection.
  • Check the account: The phone line must be active, and the carrier must support a compatible smartwatch plan in your country.
  • Use the correct settings path: Open the paired watch in Galaxy Wearable, then choose Watch settings > Mobile plans; do not look only in the phone’s general SIM settings.
  • Restart both devices: Reboot the phone and watch, reconnect them and check the menu again.
  • Ask the carrier to verify eligibility: Provide the exact watch model and account details. A carrier restriction can prevent the option from being offered even when the watch is an LTE model.

If the menu remains absent after these checks, do not factory-reset immediately. A reset can erase watch data and, where a QR-code workflow is used, require a fresh code.

What should I do if activation fails after the watch was repaired or reset?

Carrier systems identify the watch by eSIM and hardware identifiers. Give support the identifier requested rather than guessing at a replacement QR code.

  1. On the watch, open Settings > About watch > Device.
  2. Record the displayed EID, IMEI and, when shown, ICCID.
  3. In Galaxy Wearable, open Watch settings (or Home tab > About watch) and select Device to view equivalent details.
  4. Tell the carrier that the watch was reset, repaired or re-paired, and ask whether the old eSIM profile must be removed before a new one is issued.
  5. Request a new QR code if the carrier uses QR provisioning. Samsung notes that EID or ICCID visibility can vary by model and activation status, so provide the identifiers that are actually displayed.

Do not publish these identifiers or send them to an unofficial support contact. They are device and account information used for carrier provisioning.

Can I activate LTE directly on the watch without a phone?

Samsung says a watch initially set up without a phone can still activate LTE by following the on-screen mobile-plan prompts. This is a separate path from the normal Galaxy Wearable workflow and may expose fewer carrier choices.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the most predictable setup, pair a compatible Android phone first. The phone supplies the account authentication, internet connection and SIM-based eligibility checks used by the standard activation flow; the carrier may still require a companion phone even if the watch can display a direct activation prompt.

What happens if I change phones, carriers or countries?

LTE provisioning is tied to the watch, the companion line and carrier rules, so a change can require re-registration. Before switching, ask the carrier whether the existing eSIM can be transferred or must be deleted and downloaded again.

Changing phones

Pair the watch with the new compatible Android phone and complete Galaxy Wearable setup. Keep the original phone and account available until the carrier confirms that the watch line has moved; deleting the old profile too early can leave the watch without service.

Changing carriers

Check that the watch model’s LTE bands and IMEI are accepted by the new network. Number-sharing services are usually carrier-specific, so a watch that shared a number on one network may need a new companion arrangement on another.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Traveling or moving countries

Regional model approval, roaming agreements and eSIM catalogs differ. A plan that works at home may not provide cellular service abroad, and a local carrier may reject an imported watch model even when its radio hardware appears compatible.

What is the final activation checklist?

  • Confirm the watch is the LTE model, not Bluetooth-only.
  • Use an Android phone running version 5.0 or later with at least 1.5 GB RAM.
  • Insert or activate the phone’s SIM or eSIM and connect the phone to Wi-Fi or mobile data.
  • Charge and power on the watch.
  • Pair through Galaxy Wearable using Start > Galaxy Watch Ultra, verify the passkey and finish account prompts.
  • Open Watch settings > Mobile plans.
  • Choose an eligible carrier plan and review its number-sharing, feature and billing terms.
  • Complete the eSIM download; use a carrier-issued QR code if requested.
  • Wait for the watch to restart and show LTE or 4G service.
  • Turn off phone Bluetooth and test a call or message.
  • Save the watch’s EID, IMEI and ICCID locations for future carrier support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE use a different carrier from my phone?

Usually the watch plan is designed as a companion to the phone line, and some services require both lines on the same carrier account. Ask the prospective carrier whether it supports an independent watch line; the standard Number Share arrangement does not establish cross-carrier compatibility.

Will a factory reset remove the Galaxy Watch Ultra eSIM?

A reset can remove or invalidate the mobile profile, depending on the carrier workflow. Samsung warns that QR-code provisioning may require a new code after a watch or mobile-network reset, so obtain carrier instructions before wiping the device.

Where can I find the Galaxy Watch Ultra EID and IMEI?

On the watch, go to Settings > About watch > Device. Galaxy Wearable provides the corresponding details under the watch’s settings or its Home-tab About watch screen; some identifiers appear only after activation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I receive calls on LTE Galaxy Watch Ultra when my phone is turned off?

The LTE hardware is intended to handle calls and messages without a Bluetooth tether, but the phone number behavior and availability depend on the carrier’s companion service. A Number Share plan, for example, may require the phone line and account to remain active even when the handset is powered down.
