To use the Watch with another iPhone, treat it as a transfer or reconfiguration, not a quick switch between phones.
If the new iPhone asks you to start pairing rather than offering to continue using the Watch, Apple says to unpair the Watch and set it up again with the new iPhone. Check compatibility for your particular Watch and iPhone models before starting.
Can one Apple Watch pair with two iPhones?
Apple’s published setup guidance covers pairing an Apple Watch with an iPhone and transferring it to a new iPhone. The reviewed Apple sources do not describe simultaneous pairing with two personal iPhones, so do not expect the Watch to alternate between them while remaining configured to both.
This is different from Apple’s supported arrangement of pairing multiple Watches with one iPhone. Apple says you can pair more than one Apple Watch with your iPhone and switch between them. That feature is for multiple Watches and one iPhone—not one Watch and multiple iPhones.

How to move your Apple Watch to a new iPhone
Apple recommends updating the old iPhone and Apple Watch, backing up the old iPhone, then following the new iPhone’s prompts to continue using the Watch. Keep the Watch unlocked and on your wrist, with the new iPhone nearby, while you open the Apple Watch app.
- Update the old iPhone and Apple Watch to versions compatible with your devices.
- Back up the old iPhone.
- Keep the Watch unlocked and on your wrist, and bring the new iPhone nearby.
- Open the Apple Watch app on the new iPhone and follow its prompts to continue using the Watch.
- If the new iPhone asks you to begin pairing instead of offering to use the Watch, unpair the Watch from the old iPhone and configure it again with the new iPhone.
Apple’s transfer flow and available prompts may vary with the devices and software versions. Follow the on-screen instructions for your setup.

Manual pairing
If you need to configure the Watch manually, Apple’s general pairing instructions begin by bringing the iPhone near the Watch. If a pairing prompt does not appear, open the Apple Watch app and choose the option to set up the Watch for yourself.
- Bring the iPhone near the Watch.
- If no pairing prompt appears, open the Apple Watch app on the iPhone.
- Choose the option to set up the Watch for yourself.
- Follow the on-screen steps to pair and configure it.
Apple’s exact instructions depend on the Watch model and software. Check the current guidance for your devices rather than relying on one set of requirements for every model.

What about using two iPhones for work and personal life?
If you carry two personal iPhones, Apple’s documented workflow does not provide a way for one Watch to remain configured with both. Choose the iPhone you want to use for the Watch, or transfer and reconfigure the Watch when moving to the other phone.
If your goal is to set up a Watch for a family member who does not have an iPhone, look into Family Setup. It is a distinct arrangement with hardware, software, feature, regional, and carrier requirements. It is not a way to make one person’s Watch pair with two personal iPhones.

Compatibility and setup limits
Compatibility depends on the exact Apple Watch and iPhone models and their software versions. Before transferring or pairing, check Apple’s current compatibility guidance for both devices. Do not assume that a minimum iOS or watchOS version listed for one Watch model applies to another.

Can I pair my Apple Watch with two iPhones at the same time?
Apple’s reviewed setup guidance does not describe simultaneous pairing with two personal iPhones. It describes pairing and transferring the Watch to an iPhone, so do not expect a dual-phone quick switch.

How do I transfer my Apple Watch to a new iPhone?
Update the old iPhone and Watch, back up the old iPhone, keep the Watch unlocked and on your wrist near the new iPhone, then follow the new iPhone’s prompts. If it asks you to start pairing instead, unpair the Watch and configure it again with the new iPhone.
Does Auto Switch let one Watch switch between two iPhones?
No. Auto Switch concerns multiple Watches paired with one iPhone. It does not describe switching one Watch between multiple iPhones.
Can Family Setup make one Watch work with two iPhones?
No. Family Setup is a separate way to configure and manage an eligible Watch for a family member who does not have their own iPhone. Its requirements and available features vary, and it is not a second personal-iPhone pairing mode.
