Its zirconium-based case, sapphire crystal, bright display, multi-band GNSS, golf tools, expedition modes and long-lasting battery make it compelling for divers, hikers, golfers and travelers. The trade-off is Huawei’s smaller app ecosystem, regional feature restrictions and noticeably weaker iPhone integration than Apple Watch.
This review focuses on the current Ultimate 2, launched internationally in 2025. The original HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate launched in 2023 and remains available in some markets as discounted or clearance stock; it is a different generation. The much more expensive HUAWEI WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN is a separate luxury variant.
What is the Huawei Watch Ultimate 2?
The Ultimate 2 is Huawei’s flagship adventure watch. It combines a conventional smartwatch interface with expedition tracking, multi-band satellite positioning, golf features and unusually deep recreational-diving functions. Huawei lists Android 9.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later compatibility, but the functions available after pairing depend on the phone, country, carrier and watch edition (Huawei specifications).
For context, the original Ultimate’s 2023 launch prices were £699/€749 for Expedition Black and £799/€899 for Voyage Blue; those are historical figures, not current 2026 prices (Android Authority’s original review). Huawei’s China buying guide lists Ultimate 2 editions at ¥6,499, ¥7,499 and ¥7,999, with sales dates in late 2025 and 2026. Those China prices should not be converted into a universal US or European retail price (Huawei China buying guide).

Design and build quality
Ultimate 2 uses a zirconium-based liquid-metal case, sapphire glass, a nanocrystal ceramic rear case and, on some editions, a titanium strap. Huawei’s regional specifications put the case at roughly 47.8–48.5mm wide, 12.9mm thick and about 80.5g without the strap (Huawei Latin specifications). A rotating crown and dedicated buttons are easier to operate than a touchscreen when moving or wearing gloves.
The finish looks closer to a luxury mechanical watch than a typical sports computer. That also means a large, heavy object on the wrist: smaller wrists may find it uncomfortable, it can catch on cuffs and packs, and replacement titanium straps or repairs may be expensive. Premium materials resist scratches better than ordinary cases, but salt, grit and impacts still demand maintenance.
Display and outdoor visibility
The 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED panel has 466 × 466 resolution and a manufacturer-rated peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits (Huawei product page). That rating is a Huawei specification, not an independently measured sustained brightness result. In practical terms, the large, high-contrast display is well suited to sunlit trails and quick glances.
Wet fingers, gloves and screen protectors can still make touch input unreliable. Use the crown and buttons for critical actions, and configure the data fields you need before a climb or dive. Always-on display is convenient but materially reduces endurance.

Diving: the main reason to buy it
What it offers
- Huawei advertises diving to 150 metres, with 20 ATM, IP68 and IP69 protection claims.
- Recreational scuba and freediving modes, depth sensing, dive logs and post-dive analysis in Huawei Health.
- Decompression guidance using the Bühlmann ZHL-16C algorithm, according to Huawei (Huawei Australia product page).
- Ultimate 2 adds sonar-based underwater communication between compatible devices.
What those claims do not mean
A 150-metre rating and decompression algorithm do not make every technical, mixed-gas, cave, wreck or decompression profile appropriate. Sonar communication is not ordinary Bluetooth or cellular service underwater; it requires compatible hardware, supported modes and suitable conditions, and is not a universal messaging link to any diver’s watch. Treat the Ultimate 2 as supplemental technology alongside certified training, a planned dive, buddy procedures and backup instrumentation. Cold water, low battery, poor visibility and regional software support can all affect real use.
Expedition, hiking and navigation
Ultimate 2 combines a barometer, altitude information, route or breadcrumb tracking and expedition modes. Its specifications list L1/L5 multi-band GNSS across combinations of GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS and GLONASS (Huawei UK specifications). That establishes receiver capability, not guaranteed accuracy under trees, cliffs or tall buildings. Huawei’s materials emphasize route traces and outdoor data; verify what downloadable maps and offline navigation are available in your country before relying on it.
Tracking is not the same as emergency communication. eSIM works only with listed countries and carriers (Huawei eSIM support list). The China edition advertises BeiDou satellite messaging, but Chinese hardware and service availability must be treated separately from international models (Huawei China product page). Do not assume SOS, emergency contacts or satellite functions work without a paired phone, active eSIM or regional support.
Golf and sports tracking
Ultimate 2 includes course maps, practice-range tools and shot or distance information. Course databases, hazards and advanced functions can vary by country, account and software release, so check local coverage before purchase (Huawei UK product page).

Running, cycling, hiking, swimming, skiing and trail modes cover mainstream activities. Garmin remains the safer choice for athletes who need a mature training-load, recovery and navigation ecosystem; Huawei’s advantage is combining those activities with a luxury design, diving and general smartwatch presentation.
Health and wellness tracking
The sensor suite includes optical heart rate, ECG, blood oxygen, skin temperature, sleep and stress-related measurements, plus barometer, depth, motion and magnetometer sensors. Ultimate 2 adds Huawei’s X-TAP sensing system. Availability and regulatory status for ECG and other health functions vary by market and phone.
These readings are wellness information unless the exact feature has appropriate authorization in your jurisdiction. They should not be treated as diagnoses or as a substitute for clinical equipment or medical advice.

GPS, LTE/eSIM, frequent notifications, cold temperatures, high brightness and dive or expedition recording can shorten runtime. Plan charging around long trips rather than treating any single number as guaranteed field endurance.

Software, Huawei Health and phone compatibility
Android
Android generally receives the fuller experience: more complete notification and call behavior, broader Huawei Health access and better support for standalone functions where eSIM is offered. Installation and updates for Huawei Health can vary by country and phone brand, and detailed feature support is not identical across Android devices.
iPhone
iPhone pairing supports core tracking, notifications and Bluetooth calling, but it does not reproduce Apple Watch integration. Messaging and replies, apps, payments, music, eSIM and emergency functions may be limited or unavailable. Huawei’s compatibility matrix documents these differences by phone type (Huawei compatibility matrix).
HarmonyOS offers a broad first-party feature list, but its third-party app catalog, payment support, streaming options and data integrations are smaller or more region-dependent than watchOS, Wear OS or Garmin’s platform. This is better understood as an instrumented outdoor watch than a wrist-sized smartphone.

Rinse the watch with fresh water after ocean use, dry it thoroughly and keep charging contacts clean. Huawei warns that water resistance can decline through wear, aging seals or physical damage (Huawei Singapore specifications). ATM and IP ratings describe laboratory conditions; they are not permission to ignore impact damage or assume permanent protection.

Buy it if
- You dive recreationally and want integrated dive tools in a luxury watch.
- You hike, travel or golf and value battery endurance over a huge app catalog.
- You use Android and can verify local eSIM, payments, health features, warranty and course coverage.
- You prefer premium materials to the overtly sporty look of many Garmin models.
Choose something else if
- You depend on Apple services or seamless iPhone messaging.
- You need Garmin’s established endurance-training and navigation workflows.
- You require a professional dive computer, air integration or specialized certification.
- You have a small wrist or cannot obtain clear local repair and warranty support.
Bottom line
The HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate 2 earns its premium positioning through hardware and outdoor instrumentation: a bright display, substantial materials, multi-band GNSS, long battery life, golf tools and the deepest diving feature set in Huawei’s range. It is a strong buy for an Android-based adventurer who accepts regional caveats. It is a poor fit for anyone buying primarily for apps, payments, phone integration or professional dive safety. Confirm the exact edition, country support and warranty before ordering—especially when importing.
