In a February 2021 interview, Antoine Pin discussed how Bvlgari navigated pandemic-era disruption, why he valued watch-industry events, and how the brand balanced ultra-thin watchmaking with jewellery-led design. His comments are a historical view of Bvlgari’s 2020–21 strategy; Pin later became TAG Heuer CEO in September 2024, according to ESCAPEMENT Magazine.
How Bvlgari handled the disruption of 2020
Asked how the year had unfolded, Pin recalled that it began with LVMH Watch Week in Dubai and then became difficult after the coronavirus outbreak. Lockdowns affected both markets and Swiss manufacturing, despite Bvlgari’s highly integrated production line. He said protecting employees was the priority.
Pin described a shift toward domestic consumption as travel restrictions disrupted international demand. He said Europe and Hong Kong were particularly hard hit, while performance in other areas—especially China—was good. He also said Bvlgari accelerated its digital activity and saw improvement in the second half of 2020. Why he believed watch-industry events mattered
Pin argued that events brought brands, clients, the trade and the press together efficiently. In his account of the plans for 2021, LVMH Watch Week offered time to present novelties and meet clients and journalists. Watches & Wonders was intended as a major international digital event, giving Bvlgari another point in the year to present watches and develop communication suited to a digital format. Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT titanium, black dial
Pin presented the black-dial titanium Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT as a contrast-oriented addition to the ultra-thin chronograph line. The related model report identifies it as reference 103371: a 42mm sandblasted titanium case measuring 6.90mm thick, with 30m water resistance, in-house calibre BVL 318 and a 55-hour power reserve. It was fitted with a black rubber strap. MONOCHROME reported a €17,400 retail price and expected availability in January 2021; both are historical details, not current pricing or availability. Octo Finissimo S Chronograph GMT
Pin described the S version as retaining the Octo Finissimo character while prioritizing greater water resistance. He cited a screw-down crown, 100m water resistance, luminescent hands and markers, a panda dial and a day-night GMT display. According to Pin, the added water resistance increased thickness by 1.9mm. The related article identifies the steel model as reference 103467, with a 43mm case, 8.75mm thickness and integrated steel bracelet; its €17,000/US$16,500 price was reported for 2021 and is not a current offer. The contrast is practical as well as visual: the titanium model emphasizes a thinner case and black-dial presentation, while the steel S version offers a higher water-resistance rating and screw-down crown. The interview and related reports describe these two models; they are not a complete account of Bvlgari’s current range.
How Bvlgari approached striking watches and sound
Pin said Bvlgari had expertise in both ultra-thin and striking movements, including repeaters and Grande Sonnerie watches. He discussed the Octo Roma Tourbillon Carillon, where the chimes were fixed to the case rather than the calibre to help diffuse sound. Why Pin called Bvlgari a Roman jeweller
Asked about women’s watches, Pin’s concise answer was: “Bvlgari is a Roman jeweller.” He described Serpenti Spiga as “a jewel turned into a watch,” noting that its Spiga bracelet was developed with Bvlgari’s jewellery teams in Rome. The Diva Peacock collection represented a different direction, combining three distinct mechanical movements with métiers d’art. Lucea Intarsio highlighted mother-of-pearl marquetry. Where Antoine Pin’s role stands now
The 2021 interview identifies Pin as managing director of Bvlgari’s watch division. A later report says he became TAG Heuer CEO in September 2024, so that original job title should be read in its historical context rather than as his current role. ESCAPEMENT Magazine, 15 November 2025
