The creator’s description reports up to 10× magnification and 10,000 frames per second; watch-publication coverage identifies the movement as Omega caliber 1869 and reports footage of its gears engaging with the chronograph on and off.
Which Speedmaster is in the video?
It is the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8, rather than an unspecified Speedmaster Moonwatch. The Slow Mo Guys name the model in the description of their January 8, 2025 video, “Slow Motion Microscope Inside a Watch”. Hodinkee also identifies the watch as the Apollo 8 model.
What movement does the footage show?
Watch coverage identifies the movement as Omega caliber 1869. Both Fratello and Hodinkee use that caliber identification when discussing the video.
What does the close-up reveal?
At ordinary viewing scale, the watch’s internal motion is too small and quick to follow unaided. The high-magnification, high-frame-rate footage makes components and their movement easier to see. Fratello reports that the video shows caliber 1869 gears engaging both with and without the chronograph activated. That contrast offers a visual way to observe the mechanism operating in the two conditions, without establishing exact gear speeds, forces, wear, or a full technical account of the movement.

How was the footage made?
The Slow Mo Guys’ video description says the filming reaches 10,000 frames per second and 10× magnification. Those figures are the creator’s description of the video, not independently measured results. The description credits a Bolt Cinebot and Phantom VEO 4K and Phantom TMX7510 cameras. Hodinkee notes that host Gavin Free uses specialized optics, including microscope lenses, to get the extreme close-up.
The Slow Mo Guys are hosted by Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy, according to Hodinkee. The equipment credits and magnification explain the unusual view, but the video should be understood as an imaging demonstration rather than a movement teardown or watch-service tutorial.

What the video does—and does not—establish
The footage makes the movement’s small-scale motion visible in a way ordinary viewing cannot. It is not, on the available reporting, a step-by-step disassembly, a service procedure, or a frame-by-frame technical analysis. The published descriptions and coverage identify the watch, caliber, imaging claims, and reported chronograph-on/off gear footage; they do not provide measurements of the movement’s performance or a complete explanation of its architecture.
