Its steel and titanium models are not simply the same watch in different metals: the documented 38mm steel and 40mm titanium versions differ in movement, proportions, weight, accuracy specification and available configurations.
What is Christopher Ward’s The Twelve?
The Twelve is Christopher Ward’s take on the integrated-bracelet sports watch: the bracelet flows into the case rather than attaching through conventional projecting lugs. Its twelve-sided case gives the collection its name, while original launch coverage describes a distinctive textured dial. The name now covers a growing family, so specifications need to be tied to a particular size and reference.
The original introduction included steel models, including a 40mm version, and launch-era prices. Those historical figures do not establish current pricing or availability; check Christopher Ward’s live catalogue for the exact model you are considering.
How do the documented steel and titanium models compare?
The clearest comparison in the available manufacturer handbooks is between the 38mm stainless-steel model and the 40mm Grade 2 titanium model. Both are automatic watches rated to 10 ATM (100m), but their movements and dimensions differ.

Specifications in this table come from Christopher Ward’s handbooks for the named models; the handbooks do not state publication dates. The steel handbook lists a 28,800-vibrations-per-hour movement, screw-down crown and exhibition caseback. The titanium handbook lists the same beat rate, screw-down crown and exhibition caseback.
What changes when you choose steel or titanium?
Steel: a smaller documented case and bracelet adjustment
The 38mm steel model is the smaller of these two documented watches. Its stated 60g weight and steel bracelet may suit someone who prefers a more substantial feel, though how it wears depends on wrist shape and fit. The handbook’s two 1.5mm micro-adjust positions offer a way to fine-tune bracelet length at the butterfly clasp. It specifies the Sellita SW200-1 and a 38-hour reserve.

Titanium: lighter, with a different movement and strap option
The 40mm titanium model has a stated weight of 41g, 19g less than the handbook’s figure for the 38mm steel model despite its larger diameter. It uses a Sellita SW300-1, with a reserve of up to 56 hours, and has a rubber-strap configuration as well as a titanium bracelet. Titanium’s lower stated weight is a concrete distinction; the handbooks do not quantify differences in surface feel, scratch resistance or long-term durability.
The titanium case is also thinner in the handbook figures, at 8.95mm versus 9.95mm for steel, while its lug-to-lug length is longer: 44.5mm versus 43.30mm. Diameter alone therefore does not tell the whole story if you are estimating wrist fit.

Is The Twelve suitable as an everyday watch?
The documented steel and titanium versions combine an automatic movement, date display, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and 100m water resistance. That specification set makes them plausible everyday-sports-watch choices, but water resistance is not a promise that every activity is appropriate: use the crown correctly and follow the manufacturer’s care guidance. Neither handbook establishes comfort for every wrist, real-world timekeeping, durability from wear, or suitability for a particular sport.
Both handbooks say the screw-down crown should sit flush to preserve water resistance. The steel handbook also advises against correcting the date between 20:00 and 02:00. For that model, the handbook explains the bracelet’s quick-release pins; Christopher Ward also provides quick-release guidance for the titanium configuration.

How did The Twelve expand after its original introduction?
Later watches carrying The Twelve name are distinct variants, not evidence that every model shares the original steel or titanium specifications.
The Twelve 660
Fratello’s 2025 coverage describes The Twelve 660 as a 38mm, 6.6mm-thick watch with 43.3mm length, a manual-wind Sellita SW210-1 and 45-hour reserve. It has a time-only display, without seconds or a date, and 3 ATM water resistance. The article’s author said they had only seen the press release and images, so its account is not a hands-on assessment.
The Twelve Xander
T3 reported on 9 July 2026 that The Twelve Xander was a 150-piece collaboration with Chris Alexander, also known as The Dial Artist. The 41mm titanium design is based on the Twelve X and was reported with a CW-001 movement, 120-hour reserve and 100m water resistance. T3 also reported that Alexander spent 900 hours on the collaboration. Describing the dial process, Alexander told T3: “It’s meant to look chaotic. It’s meant to look fast. It’s meant to look as if I’ve just taken a paintbrush and splattered paint. Unfortunately, I wish it were that easy. Every single part goes through a multi-stage process of priming, airbrushing, hand-painting and hand finishing.” These details belong to the Xander, not the two handbook models compared above.

What should you check before choosing one?
- Confirm the exact size and reference. The original family includes more than one size and material, and later variants have different movements, displays and water-resistance ratings.
- Compare fit using more than diameter. For the two handbook models, the titanium is larger in diameter and lug-to-lug but thinner and lighter.
- Choose the configuration you want. The handbooks describe bracelet options and quick-release guidance; the titanium handbook also lists an integrated rubber-strap configuration.
- Check current price and stock with the manufacturer. Prices reported at launch are historical, not a reliable guide to the current catalogue.
