What is the Airain Sous-Marine Re-Edition?
Airain presents the Sous-Marine as a modern continuation of its 1962 model. The brand says the new watch takes design cues from the original while updating materials and engineering. Its overall proposition is therefore a revival of a historical design, not a claim that every component or specification reproduces the original.
Airain describes it as “A modern re-edition of the iconic 1962 Sous-Marine, crafted for adventurers and collectors alike.” That is the manufacturer’s positioning rather than an independent assessment.
How does the design relate to the 1962 original?
Case and crown
The heritage-led elements include the watch’s case and dial language and the distinctive capped Parmentier crown concept. Airain attributes the original crown invention to Jean-René Parmentier and describes it as a protective cap with an integrated seal. The contemporary crown is inspired by and refined from that design; this account of the invention is the brand’s history.

Two historically inspired seconds hands
The DNA Strand is not the only hand style in the collection. Airain says both the split, DNA-style seconds hand and the Lollipop hand—a round lumed tip—were used on the 1962 watch. The brand says fans selected the versions through its CoLAB project. The collection also lists Deep Blue, Faded Black, Ocean Green and Tropical CoLAB editions, which Airain describes as limited editions.

Monochrome Watches’ launch coverage also reports 28,800 vph, 24 jewels and a 68-hour reserve. That corroborates those movement figures, but does not establish real-world accuracy or performance.
What comes with the DNA Strand, and what does it cost?
Airain lists the DNA Strand at €2,050. Its product page says that the price includes shipping and applicable customs duties and taxes; those commercial terms can change, so check the current listing for your destination before ordering.

Airain states a two-year global warranty. The 20 mm lug width is a useful starting point when looking for a 20 mm watch strap, but width alone does not guarantee that a particular strap will fit the watch’s attachment.

The listed 200 m rating, sapphire crystal and contemporary automatic movement describe the watch’s stated equipment. They do not, by themselves, establish how comfortable it wears, how brightly its lume performs, how durable it is in use, or whether a particular example has passed a water-resistance test. No hands-on testing is represented here, and the published specifications should not be mistaken for independent performance findings.
