Breitling’s Top Time B31, introduced in 2025, is a 38 mm automatic watch built around the brand’s first proprietary three-hand manufacture movement, the B31. It is not a chronograph: the display has hours, minutes, seconds and a date aperture. Breitling combines that modern calibre with dials inspired by classic-car dashboard clocks, a 10-bar water-resistance rating and approximately 78 hours of power reserve.
What is the Top Time B31?
The Top Time B31 is the three-hand branch of Breitling’s Top Time family. Breitling describes it as a contemporary 38 mm interpretation of the collection’s proportions and says the design takes cues from classic-car dashboard clocks. The brand’s official launch description, published March 25, 2025, calls it a “time-only Top Time B31,” meaning it is fundamentally a time-and-date watch rather than a stopwatch-equipped chronograph.
That wording can be confusing because the watch does include a date aperture. In practical terms, “time-only” distinguishes the B31 from chronograph Top Time models; it does not mean the dial omits the calendar.
What movement powers it, and why does the B31 matter?
The watch uses Breitling’s self-winding B31 manufacture calibre. Breitling presents the B31 as its first proprietary three-hand manufacture movement, making this model an important technical debut for the brand rather than simply a new dial-and-case variation.

The 78-hour figure is a manufacturer specification, not an independently measured test result. In everyday use, it gives the watch more than three days of reserve when fully wound, so it can remain running through a typical weekend off the wrist.

These are the specifications Breitling publishes for the cited US reference. They should not be read as independent laboratory measurements or as a guarantee of performance in every wearing condition.
How does the 38 mm case wear?
At 38 mm in diameter and 10.31 mm thick, the B31 sits in the middle of current sports-watch sizing rather than pursuing either oversized modern proportions or a deliberately small vintage fit. The 20.05 mm lug width provides a standard enough interface for the supplied bracelet or strap options, while the relatively restrained thickness should help it sit under a shirt cuff.
Actual wrist presence will vary with wrist circumference, lug shape, bracelet adjustment and the chosen strap. The published dimensions establish the case size; they do not predict an identical fit for every wearer.

Dial, bracelet and strap choices
Breitling links the dial architecture to classic-car dashboard instruments. The product family is described with green, blue, and white/sky-blue treatments. Depending on the reference, the watch is paired with either a three-row stainless-steel bracelet or a perforated calfskin strap.
Color and strap combinations are reference-specific. Before ordering, match the exact reference number to the configuration shown by the seller or Breitling, rather than assuming every dial is available on both bracelet and strap.

Water resistance and daily use
The listed rating is 10 bar, equivalent to 100 metres or 330 feet. That rating indicates a substantial level of everyday water resistance on paper, but it is not a promise that the watch is suitable for every aquatic activity. Crown condition, gasket age, impact and servicing can affect real-world sealing. Breitling’s sapphire crystal and screwed-in sapphire caseback are part of the specified construction, while no independent immersion test is established here.

Who is the Top Time B31 for?
- Choose it if you want: a compact 38 mm Breitling with a date, an approximately 78-hour reserve and a manufacture three-hand movement.
- Choose a different Top Time if you need: chronograph timing functions or the additional sub-dial layout of a chronograph model.
- Check before buying: the exact dial color, bracelet or strap, reference number, regional price, tax treatment and current availability.
The B31’s strongest distinction is its combination of classic-car-inspired styling and a new Breitling-developed three-hand calibre. Its technical specifications are clearly stated by the manufacturer, while comparative claims against competing watches would require separate, controlled testing.
