The Dan Henry 1972 Maverick Automatic is a time-and-date watch with a Miyota 8215 automatic movement and a rotating inner 12-hour bezel for tracking a second time zone. It is not the quartz chronograph also sold under the 1972 Maverick name: that version adds stopwatch and alarm functions instead.
What is the Dan Henry 1972 Maverick Automatic?
Introduced in January 2024, the Maverick Automatic takes the 1972 design in a simpler direction: hours, minutes, seconds and date, plus a second-time-zone bezel. Its dial is matte black with sandwich construction and a luminous lower plate. Luminous baton hands indicate the time; the date sits at 3 o’clock, and the seconds hand is red or blue depending on the edition.
The case is stainless steel with a matte-blasted finish, with black PVD as an option. Monochrome Watches reports a sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective treatment, screw-down crowns and a screw-down caseback bearing an F-14 Tomcat medal.
What movement is in the Dan Henry 1972 Maverick Automatic?
It uses the Miyota calibre 8215, a self-winding mechanical movement. Monochrome lists 21 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, hacking seconds, quick-set date and a 40-hour power reserve. Dan Henry’s instructions confirm the calibre and explain that wrist movement winds the watch, so it does not need a battery.

Winding and setting the watch
- If the watch has stopped: Unscrew the main crown and wind it clockwise. Dan Henry advises around 50 turns if the watch has not been used for a while.
- To set the date: Pull the crown to its partially extended position and turn it to adjust the date. Do not change the date between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- To set the time: Pull the crown fully out and turn it to set the hands. The movement has hacking seconds, so the seconds hand stops while setting.
- After adjustment: Push the crown back in and screw it down securely.
How does the GMT bezel work?
The second crown, at 10 o’clock, rotates the inner 12-hour bezel. Set the bezel against the hour hand to follow another time zone: the bezel’s hour markers provide a second reading alongside the main dial. Because it is a 12-hour scale, it tracks the hour in that zone rather than showing a separate 24-hour indication.
The bezel is operated independently from the main time-setting crown. Turn the left-side crown to move it, then secure the crown again. The watch’s instructions say its crowns should be screwed down after adjustment to preserve water resistance.

These automatic-specific figures are reported by Monochrome Watches. Its bracelet is stainless steel, finished to match the case, and uses a folding clasp and quick-release spring bars. A 20 mm strap matches the stated lug width, but width alone does not guarantee that a replacement will fit the watch’s attachment or end shape.
A 100 m rating is the published depth rating, not a recommendation to use every watch function underwater. Dan Henry’s instructions advise against bathing, showering or sauna use and against operating the crowns while the watch is wet or submerged. Make sure the crowns are screwed down before water exposure.

The two versions share the Maverick name and design language, but their movements, complications and reported water ratings are different. Check the selected variant rather than assuming a specification shown for one applies to the other.
Price, availability and warranty
Dan Henry’s official product page displayed a price of $370 USD when accessed in 2026. Monochrome reported a launch price of USD 360 in January 2024; that earlier figure is launch-era information, not a current quote. The product page describes the watch as a limited edition of 1,972 pieces and states a one-year international warranty for material or workmanship defects, with exclusions including straps, glass, damage from improper use and unauthorized service.
