The F.P. Journe Vagabondage I Gold is the 2022, 68-piece gold finale to the Vagabondage trilogy. It pairs a wandering jumping-hour display with the updated, manually wound calibre 1504.2. It is not simply a gold-cased reissue of the 2004 platinum Vagabondage I: the case material, edition size and movement differ.
What is the Vagabondage I Gold?
F.P. Journe styles the watch “VAGABONDAGE I 6N GOLD.” Its Flat Tortue case is made of 18K 6N gold, and the model was produced in 2022 as a limited series numbered 1 to 68. The maker describes it as the completion of the gold Vagabondage trilogy. F.P. Journe’s model page provides the specifications and history.
The case measures 45.2 × 37.5 mm and is 7.6 mm high. Its slate-grey dial uses a sapphire disc and aperture, with screwed steel elements on the outer dial, according to the maker’s description.
How does the Vagabondage I Gold display the hours and minutes?
The watch shows the hour in a mobile aperture rather than on a conventional central hour hand. As the aperture wanders across the display, its position indicates the minutes. F.P. Journe describes the mechanism as an “Indication of hours in a mobile window which position indicates the minutes.” Monochrome Watches’ introduction also describes the hours appearing in a mobile aperture that rotates to indicate the minutes.

What is calibre 1504.2?
Calibre 1504.2 is a manually wound movement made in 18K rose gold. F.P. Journe specifies 21 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), two barrels in parallel and a power reserve of 50 ± 2 hours. The brand presents it as an updated movement compared with the original calibre 1504.
Founder François-Paul Journe explained the change: “The first Vagabondage can be considered as a prototype at the time. We now have the experience to make a better, more reliable caliber and so the movement is a new and more updated movement compared to the first attempt. The first was calibre 1504 and this new one is 1504.2.” The quotation appears on the maker’s official event page.

How does it differ from the platinum Vagabondage I?
The 2022 gold model revisits the first Vagabondage I, which F.P. Journe identifies as a 2004 platinum edition. The maker explicitly says the gold watch is not an exact copy; the documented differences include its material, limited-series count and calibre.

Where does it sit in the Vagabondage trilogy?
F.P. Journe dates the gold Vagabondage II to 2010 and the gold Vagabondage III to 2017, placing the 2022 Vagabondage I Gold as the trilogy’s final gold iteration. The maker describes the three watches’ digital time displays differently; the Vagabondage I Gold’s defining feature is its wandering jumping-hour aperture, rather than a conventional dial layout. At launch, F.P. Journe described the watch as available “on application” and said priority went to owners of the gold Vagabondage II and III who held matching serial numbers. Those are historical allocation terms from the maker’s event page; they do not establish whether the watch is currently available or accepting applications.
