CITIZEN marked The CITIZEN collection’s 30th anniversary in 2025 with four limited-edition watches featuring washi-paper dials. Two arrived in March and two in September; each reference was announced in a run of 400 pieces worldwide. All four use the Cal. A060 Eco-Drive movement, while their paper treatments, seasonal designs, case finishes and projected launch prices differ.
Four references, announced in two releases
The CITIZEN collection began in 1995, according to the company. Its 2025 anniversary releases paired finely worked washi with seasonal scenes, bringing together a decorative dial surface and the light transmission required by the watches’ solar-powered movement.

Why use washi paper in a solar watch?
Washi gives the dials their distinctive texture and color, but CITIZEN also describes it as a functional material choice. The Eco-Drive solar cell sits beneath the dial and needs light to pass through; the company says Tosa washi was selected because it transmits light. This connection between material and movement is central to the design: the dial is both a crafted surface and part of the light path that powers the watch. CITIZEN’s explanation of its washi work and Eco-Drive is available in its washi feature and Eco-Drive overview.
