The Kurono Tokyo 34mm Special Project Star Dial pairs an Art Deco typeface designed by Hajime Asaoka with polished, applied star indices. First launched in March 2025 in Copper and Blue, it is now marked sold out on Kurono’s official product page. Its launch price is historical, not a current resale quote.
An Art Deco dial adapted from an atelier watch
Kurono presents the Star Dial as an adaptation of an idea Hajime Asaoka first explored for his Tsunami “As Time Goes By” atelier watch, unveiled in Geneva in 2024. The Kurono version brings that concept to a compact 34 mm wristwatch, with eight polished star indices alongside Art Deco numerals.
Kurono says Asaoka designed the typeface character by character. On the official product page, Asaoka explains: “For this piece, in addition to the Art Deco numerals, I incorporated stars into the index. This style, known as the ‘Star Dial ‘, was popular in the 1930s.
In fact, I originally wanted to include stars in Tsunami ‘As Time Goes By ‘, but due to the complexity of manufacturing, I ended up using only numerals.”

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. Monochrome Watches’ 7 March 2025 launch report additionally lists sapphire crystal, a 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) beat rate, hacking seconds and blue IP-plated luminous hands; those details are from Monochrome’s report rather than Kurono’s short specification list.
Choosing a replacement strap
The stated 18 mm lug width is the strap width to look for. Before ordering a replacement, check that its attachment or end shape suits the watch and that the buckle dimensions work with the strap. The original specification lists calf leather; no third-party strap is endorsed here.

Monochrome’s 7 March 2025 report gave a launch price of US$1,190, excluding taxes and import duties. It described the production run as limited and not to be reproduced, with one variant per customer and deliveries expected from late March. These are launch-period terms and prices, not a quote for a watch available today.
Kurono’s official product page currently labels the watch “SOLD OUT.” That establishes the status of its official product listing, but not whether a particular secondary-market listing exists or what it should cost. Anyone considering a pre-owned example should independently check the seller, authenticity, condition and the exact variant; Kurono also publishes restrictions on resale-related warranty and service claims, including a six-month period in which it may reject claims from someone other than the original buyer.

The watch uses a Miyota 90S5 automatic movement. Kurono specifies 24 jewels and a 40-hour power reserve. Those figures are published specifications; the available product information does not establish an independently measured reserve for an individual watch.
