Why 34 mm stands out in the 1815 family
The 1815 is a classic three-hand watch, and this release gives the family a more compact set of proportions: 34 mm in diameter and 6.4 mm in height. A. Lange & Söhne presented it on 1 April 2025 as a discreet interpretation of the collection, combining familiar design cues with a newly developed movement. The announcement was part of the brand’s Watches and Wonders 2025 novelties.
The family includes two case sizes. As a scale reference, Fratello’s April 2025 review gives the larger 1815’s dimensions as 38.5 mm by 8.8 mm. That is a difference of 4.5 mm in diameter and 2.4 mm in thickness, but measurements alone do not establish how either watch will sit on a particular wrist. Lug geometry, wrist shape and personal preference also matter; if you are choosing between them, comparing both in person is useful practical advice, not a guarantee of fit.

Two gold references, with blue dials
The 34 mm watch is offered in 18-carat white gold as reference 220.028 and 18-carat pink gold as reference 220.037. Both have blue dials identified by the maker as silver, sapphire-crystal casebacks and alligator-leather straps. The strap color changes with the case metal.

Traditional 1815 styling, with a new movement
What remains familiar
The dial follows the 1815’s pocket-watch-inspired visual language: Arabic numerals, a railway-track minute scale and small seconds at 6 o’clock. A slender, slightly tiered bezel frames the blue dial, while lancet-shaped hands match the case metal. The result retains a clear, traditional three-hand layout rather than adding complications to fill the smaller case.
What is new inside
Calibre L152.1 is manually wound and visible through the sapphire-crystal back. A. Lange & Söhne specifies a 72-hour power reserve, 171 parts and a frequency of 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour, or 3 Hz. The brand describes a hand-engraved balance cock, three-quarter plate, Glashütte ribbing, four screwed gold chatons and thermally blued screws. It calls L152.1 the 75th calibre produced since the manufacture’s re-establishment. Both official reference listings specify water resistance of 3 bar.

Anthony de Haas, the manufacture’s Director of Product Development, said the challenge was to make the proportions “even more elegant” while maintaining simplicity and functionality; he also cited the longer reserve and a new going train. The movement specifications and quotation appear in the manufacturer’s release.
How to assess the smaller watch against the larger one
A meaningful comparison goes beyond diameter. The 34 mm version is 6.4 mm high, while Fratello’s 2025 article describes the larger 1815 as 38.5 mm by 8.8 mm. Consider the proportions alongside the materials, movement and functions rather than treating a smaller measurement as an automatic fit advantage.
