The Omega Speedmaster Pilot, reference 332.10.41.51.01.002, is a 40.85 mm automatic chronograph with a cockpit-inspired black dial, a tachymeter bezel and a 60-hour Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement. “Flight Qualified” needs a distinction: NASA’s historic Flight Qualified declaration applied to the Speedmaster in 1965, not to this 2024 public-release Pilot. OMEGA calls the current model the Speedmaster Pilot; the name does not establish aviation-authority certification.
What is the Speedmaster Pilot?
Introduced in 2024, the Speedmaster Pilot is a stainless-steel chronograph whose dial draws on aviation instruments. Its case measures 40.85 mm across, 14.65 mm thick and 49.60 mm from lug to lug, according to Monochrome’s launch coverage. OMEGA’s product record confirms the case size and core movement specifications. Monochrome Watches · OMEGA product page
The watch has a brushed-steel case, fixed tachymeter bezel with an aluminium insert, box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, and a solid steel screw-in caseback. OMEGA states water resistance of 100 m / 330 ft. That is a published specification, not a claim that the watch is a certified flight instrument.
What does “Flight Qualified” mean here?
OMEGA’s name for the 2024 watch is the Speedmaster Pilot. The phrase “Flight Qualified” can also refer to a separate historical event: OMEGA’s historical account says NASA declared the Speedmaster “Flight Qualified for all Manned Space Missions” on 1 March 1965. That declaration concerned the Speedmaster in NASA’s programme; it does not show that this specific public Pilot model underwent NASA qualification or received approval from an aviation authority. The aviation theme has genuine roots in OMEGA’s watch history, but that context should not be confused with certification of this reference. OMEGA says its Flightmaster launched in 1969 to meet pilots’ needs. The brand also reports that more than 110,000 watches were delivered to Great Britain’s Ministry of Defence beginning during World War II to support Air Force and Navy pilots. Those are OMEGA’s historical statements, not claims about the qualification status of the 2024 Speedmaster Pilot. OMEGA’s 2024 launch release
How the dial and chronograph are laid out
The grained matte-black dial uses white Super-LumiNova hour blocks and hands. Its central chronograph hand is black with an orange airplane tip. The two subdials differ in appearance and function:

- At 3 o’clock: a 60-minute/12-hour chronograph recorder, styled to evoke an aircraft cockpit burn-rate indicator.
- At 9 o’clock: small seconds, with a target or sight motif and a blue artificial-horizon detail.
- At 6 o’clock: the date display.
The cockpit references are design cues; they do not establish that the watch is calibrated or approved for aircraft operations. The tachymeter bezel provides a scale for calculating average speed over a measured distance when the timing conditions are appropriate.
Calibre 9900: functions and stated specifications
OMEGA identifies the movement as calibre 9900, a Co-Axial Master Chronometer automatic chronograph. Monochrome’s technical coverage describes a column wheel and vertical clutch. The official product page states a 4 Hz operating frequency, 60-hour power reserve, time-zone function and magnetic resistance of 15,000 gauss. These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent test results. OMEGA product page · Monochrome technical coverage

Who might find it appealing?
The Speedmaster Pilot is aimed at someone who wants an aviation-themed Speedmaster with a conventional chronograph layout, a date, a steel bracelet and a second textile strap included. Its 40.85 mm case, 100 m stated water resistance and time-zone function add practical versatility, while the dial’s instrument-inspired subdials give it a more overtly pilot-oriented look than a plain chronograph. Whether that design and the case dimensions suit you is a matter of taste and fit; the aviation styling should not be taken as proof of operational certification.
