PS Horology’s Tsuba is Peter Speake’s watch project built around an unusual shaped case inspired by the guard of a Japanese sword. Its first watches, Tsuba Blue and Tsuba Dong Son, were introduced in January 2025; later material shows the family has expanded to include Tsuba En and Suhail. The concept pairs that distinctive exterior with Swiss mechanical watchmaking, rather than treating the sword-guard reference as decoration alone.
What is the PS Horology Tsuba?
A tsuba is the guard fitted between a Japanese sword’s blade and grip. PS Horology uses its shaped outline as the starting point for a watch case and integrated bracelet. Peter Speake has credited the concept to his longtime friend Darren Jones, explaining that turning the idea into metal was a significant part of the creative challenge in a July 9, 2026 interview with Worn & Wound.
The first two models took different routes through the design. Tsuba Blue used a sapphire dial with an anodized metal frame and blued hands. Tsuba Dong Son drew on the imagery of ceremonial drums from ancient northern Vietnam, with a gold-crafted dial, raised concentric motifs, and ultramarine or slate versions, as described in Monochrome Watches’ January 6, 2025 launch coverage. These are design references reported by the watchmakers and specialist watch press, not a comprehensive account of the cultures behind them.
How the Tsuba family has developed
The January 2025 launch centered on Blue and Dong Son. The project’s later context is broader: PS Horology’s official Tsuba En page describes that model as a Japanese-Swiss craft dialogue created to mark the 20th anniversary of Les Artisans, while Speake discussed Blue, Dong Son, and Suhail in his 2026 interview. He said the Dong Son was the first, prompted by requests from friends and clients in Vietnam; Blue’s blue details refer to early English marine chronometers and pocketwatches; and Suhail’s gold dial is linked to stars and the desert. He also said Farhana Safa and her team are designing future pieces.

For En, PS Horology frames the project through “shibui,” which it describes as subtle, understated beauty, and “kodawari,” devotion to detail and craft. The brand says the model combines Japanese form with Swiss technique and gives it a Clous de Paris guilloché dial. What is known about the movements and specifications?
Tsuba Blue and Tsuba Dong Son at launch
Launch coverage reported both original models with Vaucher Manufacture calibre 5401, an automatic micro-rotor movement running at 21,600 vibrations per hour, with 29 jewels and a 48-hour power reserve. The figures apply to the two models as reported in January 2025; they should not be assumed to describe every later Tsuba without that model’s own specification sheet. Tsuba En
PS Horology’s retrieved En specifications list a 316L stainless-steel case measuring 38.3 mm across from 3 to 9 o’clock, excluding the crown, and 8.91 mm thick. It has sapphire front and back glass and water resistance of 3 atmospheres. The page lists an automatic Vaucher Manufacture calibre 5401 micro-rotor movement, 2.60 mm thick and 30.00 mm in diameter. The official page also specifies the Clous de Paris guilloché dial.

At the January 2025 launch, Tsuba Blue was priced at CHF 19,500, excluding tax and shipping. Monochrome reported a 30% deposit and expected deliveries by August 2025; Dong Son pricing was available on request. The reported limited editions were 100 pieces of Blue and 80 of Dong Son. Monochrome Watches and Hodinkee reported the price and quantities independently.

Those are launch-era terms, not current quotes. The available sources do not establish present inventory, prices, delivery dates, or a complete current distribution list, so a prospective buyer should confirm details directly with PS Horology or a retailer before making plans. Launch coverage named PS Horology in Switzerland, Miluxe in Vietnam, and Martin Pulli in the United States, but that reporting does not verify their current authorized status.
