The Vacheron Constantin Les Cabinotiers Solaria is a unique, double-sided wristwatch with 41 complications, including a Westminster carillon and five astronomical functions. Its achievement is not just the number of indications: the maison says it fitted a 1,521-component movement into an 18K white-gold case measuring 45 mm across and 14.99 mm thick.
What is the Solaria?
Solaria Ultra Grande Complication – La Première is Vacheron Constantin’s name for this single-piece Les Cabinotiers creation. The maison’s 2025–26 catalogue identifies it as reference 9600C/000G-231C, powered by manually wound Calibre 3655 and made in 18K white gold. It has displays on both sides of the case, giving the watch room to present its many functions without concentrating them all on one dial.
Vacheron Constantin calls it the “most complicated wristwatch ever made.” That is the manufacturer’s description; the information available here does not independently establish a record against every other watch or later release.
How many complications does it have?
Vacheron Constantin counts 41 complications. The headline number describes the breadth of the watch’s functions, but it does not by itself show how those functions work or how they are organized. The maison says the movement contains 1,521 components, took eight years to develop, and led to 13 patent applications. Those are patent applications, not a claim that 13 patents were granted.

A granular list attributed to Vacheron Constantin and reported by Fratello Watches groups the functions into time measurement, a Gregorian perpetual calendar, lunar indications, astronomical indications, chiming complications, a split-seconds chronograph, and a power-reserve indication. Fratello also reports that Calibre 3655 has 204 jewels, beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, and has a 72-hour power reserve; these movement figures are from its April 5, 2025 report.
What does the astronomical complication do?
Five functions concern astronomy. Four track the Sun: its real-time position, its height, the time of culmination, and its declination. These indications present different aspects of the Sun’s course rather than a single generic sunrise or sunset display.

The fifth function combines a split-seconds chronograph with a representation of the celestial vault. According to Vacheron Constantin, it calculates the time until a selected star or constellation appears centred in the wearer’s field of vision. The maison describes this as a world first; that distinction, like its record claim for the watch, is manufacturer-attributed.
How does its Westminster minute repeater work?
The Solaria’s chiming system is a Westminster carillon with four gongs and four hammers. A carillon uses multiple gongs and hammers to produce a sequence of notes; the Westminster reference is to the familiar chime pattern associated with the mechanism. Vacheron Constantin says the design of this chiming complication accounts for seven of the 13 patent applications filed for the watch.
