That lower dial also carries the seconds and date, preserving the collection’s signature figure-eight arrangement while giving the watch a distinct way to track a second zone. Its setting controls distinguish local time and date from reference time; it is not simply a conventional GMT watch with an independently adjusted extra hand.
How the dual-time display works
The watch uses two off-center displays that overlap visually to form a figure eight. The upper, smaller dial shows local hours and minutes. The larger dial at six o’clock brings together three indications: large seconds, the 24-hour reference-time indication and a date hand. This makes the lower display denser than a standard seconds subdial, with concentric elements organizing its information.
The reference-time indication runs on a 24-hour cycle, so it can distinguish day from night in the second zone. The display is integrated into the lower dial rather than presented as a conventional central GMT hand. The exact dial decoration varies by version.
Setting local time, date and reference time
Jaquet Droz’s instructions for the Grande Seconde Dual Time describe separate crown positions for local time/date and reference time. The local-time control also relates to the date correction; the reference-time setting adjusts the 24-hour indication. The distinction matters: changing one display is not the same operation as changing the other. For the exact sequence, use the official Grande Seconde Dual Time instructions and technical data rather than relying on a simplified description.

The manual instructs the wearer to wind the self-winding movement manually before use, specifying a minimum of 40 turns. It also gives a particular winding direction for accurate reference-time setting. Follow the manual’s directions for crown position and winding, and return the crown to its neutral position when finished; the stated water resistance applies with the crown neutral.
Case size and wrist presence
The official manual lists 39 mm and 43 mm case diameters, so the 43 mm dimensions reported in hands-on coverage do not apply to every version. Hodinkee and Monochrome give the 43 mm edition they discuss a thickness of 13.13 mm.

Hodinkee’s reviewer considers 43 mm large by many contemporary preferences, but argues that the scale gives the complex dial room to read and suits the design. Monochrome likewise notes the case’s presence, particularly on larger wrists, and describes the lower indications as adequately scaled. Those are reviewer impressions about the edition covered, not a universal fit assessment; the 39 mm option offers a smaller stated diameter.
Dial versions and what changed
Versions reported at launch in 2016
Time and Watches’ 2016 launch coverage described three 43 mm versions: red gold with ivory Grand Feu enamel, and steel with either a silver/opaline or onyx dial. Its account highlights the two off-center dials, local time, the 24-hour reference time and a red-tipped date hand.

Versions reported in the 2019 update
Time and Watches reported four versions in 2019: steel with black onyx (J016030271) or a silvery dial (J016030241), and red gold with ivory (J016033201) or black (J016033202) Grand Feu enamel. The update describes a world-map treatment on the lower dial, day/night segments on the 24-hour home-time display, and a local-hour adjustment that jumps by an hour, with the date adjusting automatically as the local hour changes. These descriptions apply to the versions covered in that update, not necessarily every Grande Seconde Dual Time.
Movement and specifications
Jaquet Droz’s manual identifies the movement as caliber 2663H24, with 42 jewels and a listed power reserve of 68 hours. Monochrome and the 2016 and 2019 Time and Watches reports instead state 65 hours. Those sources do not explain whether the difference reflects a revision, a reference variation or a changed specification, so the figures should be read with their source attribution rather than treated as interchangeable.

Monochrome describes the caliber as an automatic, twin-barrel movement with a free-sprung balance, silicon balance spring and pallet horns, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). Time and Watches’ 2019 update also reports silicon components, a double barrel and a 4 Hz frequency.

Water resistance and everyday use
The manual rates the watch at 3 bar (30 metres) and specifies that its water-resistance guarantee applies with the crown in the neutral position. That rating alone does not establish suitability for swimming. Its operating layout is designed for reading a second zone, but the available specifications and reviews do not establish a universal judgment about comfort or legibility on every wrist.
