He said its trust model centered on disclosing each seller, authenticating and servicing watches, and offering at least a one-year warranty. These are Hauser’s descriptions of Montro’s approach in 2022, not confirmation of its current operations or policies.
Why Hauser said Montro was created
Hauser traced Montro’s founding idea to 2019, when the co-founders saw an opportunity to improve the pre-owned watch experience for both buyers and sellers. He described the ambition as bringing luxury retail online in a way that felt more modern, transparent, and trustworthy.
In the interview, Hauser said the marketplace would connect buyers with selected professional sellers, facilitate online payments, and develop tools to help sellers understand the market and manage their businesses and inventory. He named Adyen as Montro’s payments partner and said its Adyen for Platforms arrangement had supported the described international payment setup since April 2022, including larger online transactions and in-store payment solutions for sellers.
How Montro’s marketplace model was meant to work
Professional sellers, not a Montro-owned resale inventory
Hauser said Montro did not intend to buy watches and resell them itself. Instead, it would connect shoppers to professional specialists and identify the seller on each listing. He summed up that distinction this way: “We stick to our promises and we won’t compete with our sellers by becoming buyers and sellers ourselves.”

That structure matters to a buyer because the platform and the seller have different roles. In Hauser’s account, Montro provided the marketplace and payment infrastructure, while the professional seller offered the watch and stood behind its condition and warranty. The interview does not independently establish how those responsibilities are handled today or for any specific purchase.
What Hauser said qualified a seller
Hauser described seller qualifications as the ability to authenticate watches, explain them to buyers, and support a warranty. A seller might employ a watchmaker or rely on a trusted watchmaker network for repairs and servicing. He said Montro disclosed which seller was offering each watch so buyers could assess who they were dealing with.

What the 2022 “Montro Guarantee” covered, according to Hauser
Hauser described the Montro Guarantee as providing at least one year of warranty per watch. He said some sellers added an extra year, while some watches could also have longer brand warranties. He said sellers checked and authenticated watches, and repaired or serviced them when necessary; if a problem arose during at least the first year, the buyer could return to the seller.
This is a CEO’s account in a 2022 interview, not independently verified current warranty language. The interview does not spell out exclusions, claim procedures, shipping costs, remedies, or whether the guarantee applied uniformly across listings. A buyer considering any listing should read the actual warranty and return terms for that watch and confirm in writing who is responsible for a claim.

The interview’s figures document what Hauser said at that time. They do not establish whether Montro still operates, how many sellers or watches it has now, or whether the guarantee remains available.
How to evaluate a pre-owned watch listing
Hauser’s account points to practical checks buyers can make on any marketplace. Treat the platform’s general claims as a starting point; verify the details for the individual seller and watch before paying.

- Seller identity: Confirm the legal or trading identity of the seller named on the listing, and check how to contact them if there is a problem.
- Authentication: Ask who inspected the watch, what was checked, and whether written authentication or service records are supplied. A marketplace’s vetting claim is not proof about a particular watch.
- Condition and service: Look for clear descriptions of condition, included parts, known repairs, and service history. Ask who performed any work and when.
- Warranty: Establish the warranty provider, duration, start date, exclusions, and claim process. Do not assume the platform, seller, and watch brand provide interchangeable coverage.
- Returns and issue resolution: Read the applicable return window and conditions, and determine whether a return or warranty claim goes to the seller or platform.
- Payment: Check which entity processes the payment and what protections, if any, apply to the transaction and delivery.
- Provenance and listing detail: Request supporting documents where available, and make sure the photos and description identify the exact watch being sold.
What Hauser said about the market and future plans
Secondary-market prices
Hauser characterized some secondary-market price rises, particularly for Rolex, as a bubble followed by a correction. The interview did not supply a dataset or method for that assessment, so it is best understood as his view rather than a measured market conclusion.
A pre-owned-market forecast
Hauser invoked McKinsey while discussing a projection that more than half of the luxury watch market would be pre-owned in a few years. The interview did not identify the McKinsey report, its date, the definition of “market,” or its forecasting method. That projection cannot be treated as a verified McKinsey statistic on the basis of this interview alone.

Montro Collectibles
Hauser said Montro had recently announced Montro Collectibles, an asset-backed NFT initiative developed with sellers and intended to allow co-ownership of an ultra-rare watch. The interview records this as a plan announced in 2022; it does not establish that the project launched or remains available.
Who Jasper Hauser and the Montro team were in the interview
The interview identified Hauser as acting CEO, Jasper van Veghel as CTO and acting CFO, and Hessel Ruijgh as COO. Hauser described his background as spanning digital product design and technology entrepreneurship, including work at Facebook after selling a prior company. These are biographical details as presented in the interview, not an update on the team’s current roles.
