The name now covers several distinct models, though, and their displays, movements, sizes, and availability differ. This review explains the original Joker, the updated Joker Classic, and the most important variants using the manufacturer’s published specifications—not hands-on testing.
What is the Konstantin Chaykin Joker watch?
The original Joker is a mechanical wristwatch designed around an expressive, face-like dial rather than conventional hands and markers. Konstantin Chaykin says it was unveiled at Basel in spring 2017 and sold out within days; that history is the manufacturer’s account. The original edition was limited to 99 pieces, according to the manufacturer’s original Joker page.
The dial’s signature arrangement is functional: one disc indicates the hours, another the minutes, and a moonphase indicator sits below them as the mouth. The maker says the display module contains 61 parts and eight jewels. It is a proprietary indication module paired with the watch’s automatic movement.
How does the Joker tell time?
The eyes show hours and minutes
Read the two circular displays as the time indications: one is the hour disc and the other is the minute disc. The face-like layout is the central design idea, not a decorative layer placed over a conventional set of hands.

The mouth is a moonphase display
On the original Joker, the lower indicator tracks the moonphase and completes the smile. This detail matters when identifying variants: some later Jokers replace the moonphase mouth with a different indication.

Joker Classic vs. the original Joker
Joker Classic keeps the face-like indication but changes the proportions and movement. Konstantin Chaykin describes the redesign as a complete change made to preserve the original’s emotional impact: “For the new watch to have the same emotional impact as my first Joker, I had to change it completely.” The quote and specifications appear on the manufacturer’s Joker Classic page.

Joker Five: weekday mouth instead of moonphase
Joker Five has an open-worked dial that exposes components, and its mouth is a retrograde weekday indicator rather than a moonphase. The manufacturer lists an automatic K.09-0 movement, a 50-hour reserve, a 40 mm steel case, and a limited edition of 38 pieces. Its page says the pieces are reserved and invites interested buyers to apply for the next release’s waiting list. These are the maker’s statements on its Joker Five page.
Joker Fiat Lux: skeletonized titanium edition
Fiat Lux is described by the maker as a special limited edition for China. It pairs a 40 mm titanium case with a skeletonized dial and moonphase display. The listed movement is the K.18-21, based on a modified ETA 2892A2, with a 42-hour reserve. The manufacturer describes it as the first Joker with original specifications to show the module through the dial and the first with an exhibition caseback. See the Joker Fiat Lux product page.

Joker Iron Mask and Joker Golden Mask
The Mask models use an open-worked mask dial with hour, minute, and weekday indicators. The manufacturer says production began in 2025 and lists a 40 mm case, K.09-1 calibre based on a modified G200, a 68-hour reserve, and annual production of no more than 100 pieces. - Display: Original Joker and Joker Classic use a moonphase mouth; Joker Five and the Mask models use weekday indications. Fiat Lux retains a moonphase and exposes the module through its skeletonized dial.
- Dimensions: The original is 42 mm across and 13.7 mm thick; Joker Classic is 40 mm across and 12.2 mm thick. Other models have their own dimensions. Those numbers alone do not establish how a watch will fit a particular wrist.
- Movement and reserve: The listed combinations are K.07-0 and 38 hours for the original, K.18-18 and 68 hours for Classic, K.09-0 and 50 hours for Five, K.18-21 and 42 hours for Fiat Lux, and K.09-1 and 68 hours for the Mask models. Reserves are manufacturer specifications, not evidence about accuracy or serviceability.

Is the Joker a good watch to buy?
The Joker’s clearest appeal is its unusual mechanical display: it makes the time readable through a characterful face, and the variants offer meaningfully different interpretations rather than just new colors. The manufacturer publishes useful technical specifications, but those specifications cannot answer how a particular example performs on the wrist or over time.
No hands-on timing, comfort, durability, finishing, or ownership evaluation is available here. The manufacturer’s pages also do not establish current prices, delivery timing, warranty terms, servicing costs, or secondary-market value. Treat the stated accuracy and power reserve as maker-published specifications, and ask the seller or manufacturer for current purchase and ownership terms before committing.
