Louis Ferla became Cartier’s CEO on 1 September 2024, succeeding Cyrille Vigneron. Announced by Richemont on 2 July 2024, the handover brought back an executive with earlier Cartier experience after he had led Vacheron Constantin from 2017. Vigneron retired from the CEO role and became Chairman of Cartier Culture & Philanthropy.
When Ferla took over Cartier
Richemont announced the appointment on 2 July 2024, with Ferla’s new role effective 1 September 2024. The group said Ferla and Vigneron would work together to ensure a smooth transition. Richemont’s announcement described the change as a succession, without setting out a new strategy or predicting business results.
Who is Louis Ferla?
Ferla’s move was a return to Cartier, not an appointment from outside the brand. He joined Richemont in 2001, beginning at Alfred Dunhill in Hong Kong and later serving as general manager in Taipei. He joined Cartier in 2006 and held roles covering Taiwan, the Middle East, India and Africa, followed by leadership of Cartier’s China business. In 2015, he became International Director Clients & Business and joined Cartier International’s executive leadership.
In 2016, Ferla moved to Vacheron Constantin as Managing Director Sales & Marketing; he became its CEO in 2017. Richemont’s current leadership biography lists him as Cartier President and CEO since September 2024. It also records that he joined Richemont’s Senior Executive Committee effective 14 February 2025.

What happened to Cyrille Vigneron?
Richemont characterized Vigneron’s departure from the CEO position as retirement after eight years at Cartier’s helm. Effective 1 September 2024, he became Chairman of Cartier Culture & Philanthropy. The role change therefore ended his tenure as CEO but did not mark an immediate departure from Cartier.
Vigneron had taken over from Stanislas de Quercize on 1 January 2016, following Richemont’s announcement of the succession in November 2015. Richemont’s 2015 announcement provides that earlier appointment context.

What the succession says—and does not say
Ferla’s prior Cartier roles and his subsequent leadership of Vacheron Constantin give the appointment a clear continuity angle: he knew Cartier before returning as CEO, while also bringing experience running another major Richemont watch maison. That career background alone does not establish that Cartier changed direction, nor does the appointment announcement document any resulting commercial or product outcomes.
Richemont Chairman Johann Rupert said Ferla’s “experience and leadership qualities will prove invaluable for Cartier’s long-term success.” Then-Richemont CEO Nicolas Bos praised Ferla’s strategic vision and management style, saying they had served him well at Vacheron Constantin. These are the executives’ assessments of their colleague, rather than independent measures of the brands’ performance.
