What the MAEN Hudson 38 MK5 is
The Hudson 38 MK5 is MAEN’s current generation of its compact dive-style watch. The available official product page describes the black-dial M1.1.7 variant. MAEN lists a 316L stainless-steel case, a closed caseback and a box-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
Because product pages can cover multiple colors and configurations, check the selected reference before ordering. The black-dial page specifies a jet-black dial with X1 Super-LumiNova; other surfaced variant pages show midnight blue.
Dimensions and likely fit
MAEN gives the case a 38 mm diameter, 47 mm lug-to-lug and 11 mm thickness, excluding the crystal. Those measurements make the watch a plausible option for someone who prefers a smaller case, but they cannot guarantee fit: wrist shape, strap or bracelet geometry, and personal preference all matter. The published measurements do not establish how the watch wears on any particular wrist.

The optional five-link bracelet is specified as tapering from 20 mm at the lugs to 16 mm at the clasp. That gives a useful sense of its changing width, but not its comfort, adjustment range or feel in use.
Movement and water-resistance claims
La Joux-Perret G100
MAEN identifies the movement as the Swiss-made La Joux-Perret G100 automatic and advertises an approximately 68-hour power reserve. That figure is MAEN’s stated specification; no independent measurement or timing test is available here. The reserve describes the advertised time the watch can run when fully wound, not a guarantee of real-world running time under every wearing pattern.

30 ATM rating
MAEN specifies 30 ATM water resistance and a closed caseback. Treat this as the manufacturer’s rating, not as an independent certification or a blanket promise of safety in particular conditions. This information alone does not establish how a specific watch will perform after wear, impact, servicing or seal deterioration.
What changed with MK5
MAEN describes MK5 as having a redesigned case and lists several generation-specific details: a ceramic bezel, a lume pip, lug holes, and updated bracelet clasp and end links. These are manufacturer-described changes; the available evidence does not independently assess their execution or compare them through physical inspection.

Older Hudson reviews refer to earlier generations and should not be used as MK5 specifications. For example, Hodinkee’s 2019 hands-on report describes an earlier Hudson 38 with 100 m water resistance and a then-current asking price of €399.20. Those are historical details for that earlier watch, not the MK5.
Choosing a strap or bracelet
For the surfaced black-dial configuration, MAEN lists a lizard-pattern TPU strap as the base strap. The product page also lists optional five-link and Jubilee bracelets, as well as a black FKM rubber strap. Check the exact variant and order summary to confirm what is included; options can differ by configuration.

Optional five-link bracelet
MAEN describes this bracelet as having brushed and polished finishing, solid end links with quick release, and an upgraded butterfly clasp with on-the-fly adjustment. Its stated taper is 20 mm at the lugs to 16 mm at the clasp. These details explain the listed construction and adjustment feature, but no physical assessment of clasp operation, fit or comfort was conducted.
