Its defining feature remains the fluid transition from case to bracelet, with polished and satin-brushed surfaces creating the original’s distinctive contrast. Piaget currently lists four versions, in yellow gold, white gold, two-tone gold, and white gold with a sodalite dial.
What is the Piaget Polo 79?
The Polo 79 is Piaget’s contemporary reinterpretation of its original Polo watch. The Maison describes the design as a return to the original’s purest expression, with subtle updates. The central idea is not simply a gold watch attached to a separate bracelet: the case and bracelet form a continuous, integrated shape.
Piaget’s collection-page wording puts the concept this way: “Piaget Polo 79 full gold is not a bracelet featuring a watch, but a watch featuring a bracelet.” That is the manufacturer’s description of the design, rather than a quotation attributed to a named designer.
How does it relate to Yves Piaget and the 1979 original?
Piaget’s official history dates the original Polo to 1979, ten years after the unveiling of its 21st Century Collection. The brand presents the watch as a demonstration of its gold-working expertise and connects its origins to Yves Piaget and the Maison’s polo-playing clientele: Piaget says Yves played or watched the sport, and that the watch appealed to the glitterati around him.

In Piaget’s account, the original was made in solid 18-carat gold. Its integrated case and bracelet combined polished gadroons with satin-brushed links, a contrast carried into the present Polo 79. Piaget also says the Polo was the first of its watch models to receive an official name. These historical details are the Maison’s account of its own history.
What has changed in the modern Polo 79?
The new collection retains the full-gold construction, integrated bracelet, fluid silhouette, and alternating polished and brushed finishes that Piaget identifies with the original. The most visible expansion is in the choice of materials and dial: alongside yellow- and white-gold versions, Piaget lists a two-tone white- and yellow-gold model and a white-gold version with a sodalite dial.

The collection page also names the self-winding 1200P1 micro-rotor caliber and gives its thickness as 2.35 mm. That is the stated thickness of the movement, not the thickness of the complete watch.
