Its 38 mm steel case measures 47 mm lug-to-lug, but at 13.4 mm thick it is not especially flat. Whether it is worth the price depends on whether you want that combination of vintage racing-watch styling, hand-wound operation and bezel-based time-zone tracking—and are comfortable with the current purchase terms.
What is the Maen Skymaster 38 M6.1.3?
The M6.1.3 is one configuration in Maen’s Skymaster 38 MKIII chronograph family. Its jet-black dial is paired with a rotating ceramic bezel marked for 12-hour time-zone tracking. Other MKIII configurations have different dial and bezel treatments, including a fixed tachymeter bezel; those versions do not share the M6.1.3’s rotating second-time-zone function. Maen traces the Skymaster name to the Douglas DC-4 and its role in KLM’s route history. That is the brand’s inspiration story, not a claim that the watch is a certified aviation instrument.

How does the bezel work?
M6.1.3: rotating 12-hour bezel
The M6.1.3 bezel is a simple way to keep a second time zone in view. Set the bezel’s 12-hour marker relative to the main hour display according to the time difference, then read the bezel against the watch’s hour hand. Because it is a 12-hour scale, it shows the offset rather than distinguishing morning from evening; you must keep track of that yourself. It is a bezel-based aid, not an independently adjustable GMT hand.

Other MKIII versions: fixed tachymeter
Some MKIII configurations use a fixed tachymeter scale instead. A tachymeter can estimate average speed over a known distance by timing how long it takes to cover that distance. It does not provide the M6.1.3’s rotating 12-hour second-time-zone setting. Check the exact reference before assuming which function a Skymaster 38 has. Monochrome discusses the tachymeter option and its purpose in its MKIII review.
Is it automatic or manual wind?
The MKIII M6.1.3 is manually wound: it uses a Top Grade Sellita SW510Mb, not an automatic movement. Maen lists a 56–62-hour approximate power reserve for the MKIII movement, along with 23 jewels, a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), Incabloc shock protection and regulation in five positions. Monochrome describes the reserve as approximately 63 hours. Those are source-specific approximate figures, not a guaranteed runtime; in practical terms, expect about 60 hours when fully wound, subject to the movement’s condition and use.

The SW510Mb provides hours, minutes and chronograph functions. Monochrome describes a no-date layout with chronograph counters and central chronograph seconds. The hand-wound movement is a meaningful change from the earlier Skymaster generation: Monochrome reports that the previous version used a modular automatic ETA 2894-2. The older automatic specification should not be applied to this MKIII.
How does the 38 mm case wear?
The headline diameter is only part of the fit story. At 47 mm lug-to-lug, the case length is useful to compare with a watch you already find comfortable; at 13.4 mm including the raised box crystal and caseback, the Skymaster has noticeable height. The FKM strap is the standard M6.1.3 configuration, while Maen lists bracelet upgrades separately.

Published impressions differ. Brice Goulard of Monochrome called the MKIII compact and vintage-oriented, pointing to its 38 mm diameter and 47 mm length. Thor Svaboe of Fratello, writing about a prototype in 2023, said it felt substantial for a 38 mm watch and noted that the thickness includes the box crystal. These are individual impressions, not a fit guarantee; wrist shape, strap or bracelet choice, and personal preference all affect how it feels. Monochrome’s review also notes the revised pie-pan dial and recessed minute track, while Fratello praises the dial texture and bracelet execution.
What does it cost, and what are the ownership terms?
When Maen’s U.S. product page was accessed on October 7, 2026, it showed the M6.1.3 at $1,925 including VAT, marked “Only a few available,” with direct shipping. The same page listed a Jubilee bracelet upgrade at $146, a five-link bracelet at $174 and a grey FKM strap at $55. Maen states that its warranty lasts two years from arrival. The listed exclusions include damage related to abnormal use, lack of care, negligence, accidents, incorrect use, water damage and failure to follow directions. Maen advertises free worldwide shipping on orders over €150 through FedEx; expedited shipping may cost extra. The M6.1.3 makes the clearest case for itself if you specifically want a manually wound chronograph in a 38 mm case, with a 12-hour bezel that can track another time zone and a vintage-inspired dial. Its 47 mm lug-to-lug dimension is promising for buyers seeking a shorter case, but the 13.4 mm thickness means it is not a low-profile watch. The fixed-tachymeter MKIII is a different functional choice, not just a cosmetic variant.

At the listed price snapshot, it is sensible to compare exact alternatives on case length and thickness, winding style, bezel function, water resistance, included strap or bracelet, warranty and delivered cost—not just case diameter. Monochrome places the watch in a crowded mechanical racing-chronograph field and names Seiko, Tissot, Hamilton, Certina, Nivada, Baltic and Depancel as brands buyers might also consider, but its review is not a controlled head-to-head comparison. No direct value ranking follows from that list.
What reviewers’ accuracy observations do—and don’t—show
Fratello’s Thor Svaboe reported an average of +7 seconds per day during his observation of a 2023 prototype. That is one reviewer’s limited observation of a prototype, not a laboratory test, a production-watch result or a promise of accuracy. Maen lists regulation in five positions for the movement, but the cited sources do not establish a guaranteed daily accuracy figure for each production M6.1.3.
