Which watch did Mark Zuckerberg wear?
It was identified as the Greubel Forsey Hand Made 1, an unusually labor-intensive, limited-production mechanical watch. The identification was reported by Time+Tide and The Guardian.
Time+Tide describes a 43.5 mm white-gold case, an open dial and a tourbillon positioned at 7 o’clock. The publication says the watch is largely made by hand with hand tools rather than automation, though it notes exceptions including the gaskets and crystal. It reports Greubel Forsey’s figures of roughly 6,000 man-hours per watch and production capacity of about three watches a year. Why did the watch become part of the Meta story?
Zuckerberg wore it in the video in which Meta announced changes to its US content-moderation approach. The juxtaposition drew attention: the announcement concerned contested questions of political speech and platform enforcement, while the watch was reported to be worth close to a million dollars. Time+Tide’s Jamie Weiss documented examples of commentators calling the choice tone-deaf or out of touch. That supports saying some observers criticized the appearance; it does not show how widespread that view was, or establish Zuckerberg’s reason for wearing the watch.

Meta characterized its existing program by saying, “A program intended to inform too often became a tool to censor.” That is the company’s description of its decision. On Community Notes, Meta said: “Once the program is up and running, Meta won’t write Community Notes or decide which ones show up.” This describes the intended design announced at the time.

It also said the company removed millions of pieces of content daily, amounting to less than 1% of content produced each day. In an update published May 29, 2025, Meta said it had achieved a roughly 50% reduction in enforcement mistakes in the United States when comparing Q4 2024 with Q1 2025. The company also said the low prevalence of violating content remained largely unchanged for most problem areas. These, too, are company-reported figures and should be read as such.
