The Maurice de Mauriac Züri-Date collection turns a familiar Zurich scene into eight watch-dial colors: the palette of the city’s trams, as recalled by the brand. Its design story centers on Paradeplatz, a Tuesday, and a late-night ride on tram 8. The watches pair those colorful dials with a Swiss German day display and a magnified date.
How Zurich’s tram palette became the Züri-Date
Maurice de Mauriac traces the collection’s idea to co-founder Leonard Dreifuss crossing Paradeplatz on a Tuesday—“Zischtig” in Swiss German—on his way from the studio to Bahnhofstrasse. The brand quotes him saying that the colors of Zurich’s ever-present trams suddenly made the palette clear. This is the company’s account of the design process, not an independently documented history. Maurice de Mauriac’s story
In the same account, Massimo Dreifuss recalls the brothers getting on different trams at Paradeplatz, then adjusting the colors until they suited the brand’s aesthetic. The brand says they settled the final palette at about 10 p.m. on tram 8 near the square. That mix of everyday transit and deliberate refinement is the collection’s defining idea: a local color reference translated into a coordinated set of watch dials.
The eight Züri-Date colors and their Zurich references
The brand connects each color to a tram line or, in one case, to a detail at its studio. Its story calls the eighth dial white, while the current product page labels the corresponding option silver; the names therefore depend on which source or configuration is being described.

These associations are the brand’s stated inspiration, rather than a claim that every tram is exclusively represented by one color. The brand’s color story and its current green-variant product page use the different white and silver descriptions.
What the watch combines with its colorful dial
The collection’s visual idea sits alongside practical calendar displays: a day indicator at 12 o’clock shown in Swiss German and a date at 3 o’clock beneath a magnifier. The brand’s story describes an automatic ETA 2834-2 with 25 jewels and a display caseback, with leather strap and steel bracelet choices. Its current green-variant listing specifies an ETA 28.34-2 TOP automatic movement, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a satin-finished 316L stainless-steel case, 11 mm height, and 5 ATM water resistance. Those details apply to the listed configuration, not necessarily every edition or variant. Brand story; current product listing
Launch history and why specifications need a date
The new edition launched at Züri Fäscht on July 7, 2023, building on an earlier anniversary Züri-Date that the brand says had sold out. Launch coverage from Europa Star reported 39 mm and 42 mm diameter options, 13.90 mm height, 100 m water resistance, and a price of CHF 3,200 including 7.7% VAT. These are figures from that July 2023 coverage, not specifications to apply automatically to current listings. Maurice de Mauriac’s launch story; Europa Star’s July 2023 coverage
The current green-variant product page lists CHF 3,900 for the displayed product, with leather and Milanese bracelet variants shown at CHF 3,550 and CHF 3,800. These are page-specific prices and may change. The page gives the green variant’s current listed specifications, but readers should check the live listing for the exact case size, configuration, price, and availability of the watch they are considering.
