Probably—but the June 2021 FCC filing did not prove it. It showed a Fossil-family smartwatch with Wear OS clues, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and a 300 mAh battery reference. Fossil later released a Gen 6 smartwatch that fit that picture, but the original filing did not publicly connect its model numbers to the Gen 6 name or retail product.
The FCC filing behind the rumor
Droid Life’s June 22, 2021 article, “Maybe This is the Fossil Gen 6,” was a cautious identification, not an announcement. The filing listed three model numbers: DW13F1, DW13F2 and DW13M1. The article read the suffixes as pointing to two Fossil-branded variants and one Michael Kors-branded version, apparently with substantially similar hardware.
FCC materials offered several clues about the device: an e-label, a familiar Wear OS interface, testing for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC, and a reference to a 300 mAh battery. Those details supported the idea that this was a connected smartwatch in Fossil’s product family. They did not establish the consumer-facing name, launch date, processor, final software version or retail configurations. FCC certification concerns regulatory compliance; it is not a product announcement.
Why DW13 looked like a Gen 6 candidate
Fossil’s earlier model numbers made DW13 intriguing. The historical sequence cited by Droid Life included the Fossil Sport as DW9, the Gen 5 as DW10 and the Gen 5E as DW11. A newer DW number could plausibly indicate a newer smartwatch generation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
But the sequence was never an official naming rule. A later DW12 product was a hybrid watch rather than the next premium Wear OS generation. That exception matters: DW13 made the Gen 6 theory plausible, but the number alone could not identify the product.
What the filing did—and did not—confirm
- Confirmed in the reported filing: model numbers DW13F1, DW13F2 and DW13M1; Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC testing; Wear OS-related software clues; and a 300 mAh battery reference.
- Reasonable inference: the models belonged to Fossil’s smartwatch family and may have represented Fossil and Michael Kors variants.
- Not confirmed by that evidence: the Gen 6 retail name, Snapdragon processor, case sizes, launch date, final features or exact retail SKU.
Fossil had also filed paperwork for products that turned out to be Gen 5 variants, a Gen 5E, a hybrid or a Michael Kors-branded watch. That history explains the original article’s restraint: seeing a Fossil-related filing was not the same as knowing which watch it would become.

What Fossil eventually released
Fossil released the Gen 6 smartwatch in 2021. Retail listings describe a Wear OS watch built on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform, sold in 42 mm and 44 mm configurations and offered in a range of case, strap and fashion variations. NFC and smartwatch connectivity were among its features. Retail listings advertised charging to about 80% in a little over 30 minutes; that is a product claim, not a guarantee of real-world charging time. See the Best Buy Gen 6 listing for an example configuration.
The FCC’s 300 mAh reference and Wear OS clues are consistent with the eventual product, as is the appearance of multiple Fossil-family variants. But the cited public evidence does not explicitly link DW13F1, DW13F2 or DW13M1 to a particular Gen 6 retail SKU. The careful conclusion is that the filing was likely related to the upcoming Gen 6 family—not that the filing itself confirmed the name.

How the final watch compared with expectations
The Snapdragon Wear 4100+ was a meaningful step beyond the Snapdragon Wear 3100 hardware used in much of Fossil’s previous generation. It did not, however, make the Gen 6 a clean-sheet answer to every smartwatch limitation. Battery demands remained a practical consideration, and fast charging could make top-ups quicker without removing the need to charge regularly.
The software timing also complicated the launch. The Gen 6 arrived before its Wear OS 3 upgrade was available; contemporary coverage described that delay. See Gizmodo’s coverage of the Razer and Fossil collaboration for context on the platform and themed variants. A generation number alone did not mean the watch launched with every newer Wear OS capability.

Some products used the Gen 6 platform under different branding. The Razer x Fossil Gen 6, for example, was principally a themed version with cosmetic and software branding changes, not a wholly new hardware generation. Fossil-family listings can also vary by brand, LTE capability, case size and finish, so “Gen 6” does not mean every SKU is identical.
Verdict: was the original rumor right?
| Question | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Did the cited FCC evidence explicitly name the Fossil Gen 6? | No; the Droid Life article reported model numbers and technical clues, not a definitive retail name. |
| Did it point to a Fossil-family Wear OS smartwatch? | Strongly supported by the reported software and connectivity evidence. |
| Was it consistent with the Gen 6 Fossil later sold? | Yes, but consistency is not proof that the filing models were exact retail SKUs. |
| Did Fossil release a Gen 6 in 2021? | Yes. |
| Was the June 22 article confirmation? | No. It was a plausible, explicitly tentative pre-launch identification. |
Should you buy a Fossil Gen 6 in 2026?
For most buyers, the Gen 6 makes sense only as a strongly discounted purchase with a meaningful return policy. It may still appeal if Fossil styling, Wear OS apps or NFC on the specific model matter more than having newer hardware. It is a 2021-era smartwatch, however, and an old or used unit brings a real risk of battery wear. Current software and app support should be checked for the exact watch and phone rather than inferred from a launch-era review.

Availability is seller- and region-specific. At least one Best Buy listing reports the watch unavailable new; remaining listings may be old stock, refurbished, used or marketplace offers. No single current price or universal support policy is established here, so compare the actual seller, condition, warranty and return terms rather than relying on the original retail positioning.
Checks before buying
- Confirm the exact SKU or model number, case size (42 mm or 44 mm), finish and strap.
- Check whether it is Bluetooth or LTE; features and regional support can differ.
- Ask about battery condition, and confirm the charger is included.
- Look for a return period and a real warranty, especially for old stock or a used device.
- Make sure it is a full Wear OS smartwatch, not a Fossil hybrid, and verify it can be reset and paired with your phone.
- Prefer photos of the actual item over generic listing images.
Battery condition deserves particular scrutiny: a technically unused watch that has spent years in storage is not automatically equivalent to a fresh unit. Fast charging is convenient, but it does not turn a frequently charged watch into a long-life fitness device. If the price approaches that of a newer smartwatch, or you need longer battery life, current health features or a clearer support horizon, compare newer Wear OS watches or fitness-focused models before buying.
