Oakley Meta Vanguard is a sport-focused line of AI glasses announced by Meta on September 17, 2025. It combines a hands-free camera, open-ear audio and fitness-app integrations in a wraparound frame. Meta announced a US launch price of $499 and a launch date of October 21, 2025; those are launch details, not a statement of today’s price or availability.
What the Vanguard glasses are designed to do
Meta positions Vanguard for high-intensity sports, with a camera for capturing activity hands-free, open-ear speakers for audio, and voice controls. Oakley’s US listing identifies the black-frame, Prizm Road version as model OW8001-010. Its listed hardware includes 32 GB of flash storage, two open-ear speakers, a five-microphone array, Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, and touch and voice controls. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance findings.
Camera and video
Meta describes a centered 12-megapixel camera with a 122-degree wide-angle lens and 3K video capture. The listed camera modes include Slow Motion, Hyperlapse and adjustable video stabilization. Oakley’s technical video fields separately specify 720p at 120 frames per second and 2203 × 2938 at 30 frames per second. Those acquisition figures are best read alongside the “3K” marketing description, not treated as interchangeable measures.
Fit and protection
The frame has a wraparound design, Oakley PRIZM lens technology and a Three-Point Fit system. Meta says it is optimized for cycling helmets and hats and includes three replaceable nose pads, including low- and high-bridge options. The frame is rated IP67 for dust and water resistance. On the listed Prizm Road variant, Oakley specifies 20% lens light transmission; that figure should not be generalized to other lens options.

What Garmin and Strava add
Garmin-connected workout features
With a compatible Garmin device, Meta says users can ask Meta AI for workout metrics—for example, “Hey Meta, what’s my pace?”—and receive status-LED feedback against a selected metric such as pace or heart rate. Meta also describes automatic video capture around activity milestones or changes in workout metrics. A compatible Garmin device is required and sold separately; check device compatibility before relying on a particular watch or bike computer.
Strava and activity summaries
Meta and Oakley describe sharing activities with Strava and adding performance-metric overlays to captured photos and videos. Meta also describes post-workout summaries through app connections with Garmin Connect, Apple Health or Android Health Connect. These are published capabilities; the manufacturer materials do not establish how well the integrations perform in every workout or configuration.

Battery life and charging
Oakley estimates up to nine hours on a charge with moderate use, up to six hours of continuous audio playback or voice calling, and up to 36 additional hours from a fully charged case. Meta’s announcement says a quick charge can bring the glasses to 50% in 20 minutes in the case. These are manufacturer figures, not independently measured runtimes: Oakley says actual results vary with use, configuration, settings and other factors. The charging cable is not included.
Phone, app and account requirements
Oakley lists Android 10 or later, or iOS 14.4 or later, wireless internet, a valid Meta account and the Meta AI app as requirements. Oakley cautions that some AI features are available only in selected countries and languages, so check local feature availability before purchase.
