No. Meta describes the Meta Neural Band as an input device that senses electrical activity associated with wrist and hand muscle movement, then maps those signals to commands. The materials reviewed describe sensing—not electrical nerve stimulation or control of a person’s nervous system. There is also an important product distinction: Meta announced the band with Meta Ray-Ban Display, its display AI glasses, while Orion is a separate AR-glasses prototype.
What the Meta Neural Band measures
Meta says the band uses surface electromyography, or sEMG, to detect electrical signals associated with muscle activity around the wrist. Those signals can indicate intended finger or hand movements; software then interprets patterns as inputs such as scrolling or clicking.
That is different from reading thoughts or stimulating nerves. In a 2021 explanation of its wrist-based interaction work, Meta’s then Reality Labs director of Neuromotor Interfaces, Thomas Reardon, described the goal as using output from the peripheral nervous system—the nerves outside the brain that animate hand and finger muscles—to control a machine. The 2025 product description, however, characterizes the Neural Band as sensing muscle activity for input. The sources do not establish that it sends electrical impulses into nerves or involuntarily controls the wearer.
What glasses does the band go with?
Meta’s September 17, 2025 announcement paired the Neural Band with Meta Ray-Ban Display, which the company calls display AI glasses. The same announcement places Orion in a different category: an AR-glasses prototype. Calling the announced Display set an Orion product, or describing the band as an already released Orion controller, blurs that distinction.

Meta announced US retail availability for the glasses-and-band set beginning September 30, 2025, with a starting price of $799. Those are historical launch details, not confirmation of the current price, stock, retail channels, or availability in other countries. Meta said expansion to Canada, France, Italy, and the UK was planned for early 2026; the announcement alone does not confirm whether that plan took effect.
What the wrist input is meant to do
Meta describes subtle finger movements for silent scrolling and clicking. It says the band can register some movement before it is visibly perceptible. That is a company performance claim; the sources reviewed do not give an independent accuracy benchmark, error rate, or detection threshold.

Meta described handwriting as a feature coming “in the near future” in its 2025 announcement. That wording is not proof that handwriting was available to every user at launch or that it is currently supported for every device or market.

What Meta says about accessibility
Meta says wrist muscle signals could offer another control option for people who have tremors, cannot make large movements, or have fewer than five fingers on a hand. In May 2025, the company reported collecting data with a clinical research organization to evaluate controls and handwriting for people with hand tremors associated with Parkinson’s disease or essential tremor. It also described an active collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University exploring sEMG-based interaction for people with spinal cord injuries.
These are research activities and potential applications, not evidence that the Neural Band is a treatment or that it has been shown to work equally well for all users. Meta’s 2025 figure of nearly 200,000 research participants refers to its sEMG research; it is not an independently validated accuracy result or a reported clinical-trial outcome.

Battery, water resistance, and fit
Meta lists up to 18 hours of battery life, an IPX7 water rating, and three sizes for the band. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test findings. Fit matters for a wrist-based sensor: buyers should check sizing and compatibility information for their market and device before relying on a particular control feature.
