Oakley Meta HSTN is the more general-purpose performance style, while Vanguard is built for high-intensity sports. Both combine sports eyewear with a camera, open-ear speakers, microphones, and Meta AI; neither is a conventional display-based AR headset. Meta and Oakley list HSTN from $399 and Vanguard at $499 on the U.S. pages reviewed, but prices vary by model variant and market.

What Oakley Meta smart glasses do

HSTN and Vanguard combine eyewear with hands-free camera capture, open-ear audio, microphones, and voice interaction through Meta AI. The product descriptions reviewed do not describe a conventional in-lens display or visual heads-up interface.

Both models require a smartphone and the Meta AI app. Oakley lists Android 10 and iOS 14.4 as minimum operating-system versions and notes that some AI features are limited by country and language. Check current phone compatibility and feature availability for your location before buying.

Which Oakley Meta glasses are better for sports?

Vanguard is the more purpose-built option for high-intensity sports: its wraparound design is optimized for helmets and hats, and it adds Garmin and Strava features. HSTN is the more general-purpose choice for athletes and fans who want the core camera, audio, and AI functions without Vanguard’s sports-focused design. The right choice depends on the activity and setup, not on a claim that one model is universally better.

Vanguard includes Garmin integration for workout metrics and Strava integration. Oakley says photos and videos can include performance metrics from Garmin devices or Strava. The sources reviewed do not provide a complete list of compatible Garmin devices, so verify that your device and account setup are supported before buying.
