Yes, the Ray-Ban Meta line had passed one million cumulative sales by 2025. But the largest official 2025 disclosure is broader: EssilorLuxottica reported more than 7 million AI glasses sold during calendar 2025, combining Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta. A precise Ray-Ban-only total for January 1–December 31, 2025, has not been disclosed in the cited official filings.

What “last year” means here
Because this article is about 2025 sales, “last year” means January 1 through December 31, 2025. EssilorLuxottica’s “above 7 million” statement covers that full fiscal year. It is not a cumulative total since the products launched, and it is not an exact number such as 7.0 million or 7.5 million.
Why the headline needs a qualification
Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta are separate lines
Ray-Ban Meta launched in September 2023. Oakley Meta launched in June 2025. Therefore, the 2025 total includes sales from both brands. Calling all of those units “Ray-Ban sales” overstates what the company actually disclosed.
The Ray-Ban milestone is still real
The earlier two-million figure establishes that Ray-Ban Meta had already exceeded one million cumulative units by February 2025. It supports the broad milestone claim, but it cannot be used to calculate Ray-Ban’s sales for the 2025 calendar year.

A dated timeline
- September 2023: Ray-Ban Meta launches.
- February 12, 2025: EssilorLuxottica reports two million cumulative Ray-Ban Meta units sold since launch.
- June 2025: Oakley Meta launches.
- Full year 2025: EssilorLuxottica reports more than seven million combined AI-glasses units sold.
- May 2026: Meta announces additional Japan availability and says the companies’ AI glasses have sold “millions” of units, without providing a Ray-Ban-only 2025 count. Meta’s Japan announcement
What drove the acceleration?
EssilorLuxottica said growth accelerated in the second half of 2025, citing continued Ray-Ban Meta success, the Gen 2 refresh and Oakley Meta’s strong start. The recognizable Ray-Ban shape, built-in Meta AI, camera, open-ear audio, calls, music and hands-free capture give the glasses a more familiar use case than many experimental wearables. Those are reported product and launch factors, not proof that any one feature caused the sales result.
Meta’s second-quarter 2025 filing also attributed part of Reality Labs’ revenue increase to higher Ray-Ban Meta AI-glasses sales, but it did not provide a complete standalone unit table. What the sales number does not prove
- It does not reveal monthly active users or how often owners use Meta AI.
- It does not show retention, returns, replacement purchases or regional mix.
- It does not establish how many buyers use the glasses mainly as sunglasses, cameras, headphones or AI assistants.
- “Units sold” should not automatically be treated as a measure of active installed base or independently verified consumer sell-through.
These are AI glasses, not conventional AR glasses
Standard Ray-Ban Meta models are primarily camera-and-audio eyewear. They provide Meta AI, photography and video capture, calls, music and hands-free controls, but they do not present the conventional see-through heads-up display associated with full augmented-reality glasses. Treating “AI glasses,” “smart glasses” and “AR glasses” as interchangeable can give buyers the wrong expectation.
What buyers should consider
Ray-Ban Meta
Ray-Ban Meta is aimed at people who want ordinary-looking sunglasses or optical frames with cameras, open-ear audio, calls and Meta AI. Meta lists prescription-compatible options, but compatibility depends on the prescription and lens configuration. See the official Ray-Ban Meta page. A Japan listing observed by Meta started at ¥73,700; that is a Japan price, not a current U.S. price.

Oakley Meta
Oakley Meta targets sport and performance styling, including HSTN and Vanguard models. The official Oakley Meta page listed a Japan starting price of ¥77,220; regional pricing, availability and prescription costs vary.
Neither line is a good match if you specifically want a visible heads-up display, full AR overlays, camera-free privacy, very long recording sessions without charging, or a device that works without a phone, companion app, account and cloud-connected services. Compare current regional options through Meta’s AI-glasses store before buying.

Bottom line: Ray-Ban Meta had clearly surpassed one million cumulative sales. The strongest official 2025 figure—more than seven million units—covers Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta together, so it should not be reported as a Ray-Ban-only annual total.
