It let users browse inbox messages, reply and take quick actions on the watch—not just see phone notifications. The release was built for Samsung’s Tizen-era watches; installation today depends on whether your model uses Tizen or Wear OS.
What Microsoft launched in 2019
The announcement was a product release, not a new launch: Microsoft officially introduced the Outlook watch app on October 23, 2019, after testing it earlier that month. It arrived amid Microsoft and Samsung’s broader partnership and was distributed through Samsung’s wearable app storefront for compatible watches. The launch report from Thurrott describes that original release.
A dedicated watch app is different from notification mirroring. Mirrored notifications put alerts from the phone on the watch; the Outlook app also offered an inbox view and controls for working with messages. It was still a companion to Outlook on the phone, not a self-contained replacement.
What you could do with Outlook on the watch

Outlook accounts configured on the connected phone were connected automatically. That makes the watch useful for quick triage, short replies, and checking event alerts, but the small display and phone-led setup make it a poor tool for long messages, large attachments, complex folder management, or full calendar administration.
Which Galaxy Watches use which app store?
“Galaxy Watch” covers two different platform generations. Samsung says Galaxy Watch4 and newer models use Wear OS, while models released before Watch4 use Tizen. The store you need follows that distinction.

Samsung’s platform guidance distinguishes the Wear OS and Tizen generations. Its Play Store instructions explain that Wear OS watches use Google Play; the Galaxy Store is not the right storefront for those models. For older Tizen models, Samsung’s app-installation guidance covers the Galaxy Store route.
How to install Outlook on a Galaxy Watch
On a Wear OS Galaxy Watch
- Install Outlook on the connected Android phone, then sign in and configure the account you want to use.
- On the watch, open the Play Store. Alternatively, open the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone and use its Store control to reach the watch’s Play Store.
- Search for Microsoft Outlook and check that the listing offers a version compatible with your watch.
- Tap Install and follow the prompts.
- On the phone, check that Outlook notifications are enabled; also allow the relevant watch notifications in the phone’s wearable settings.
Samsung’s Wear OS setup guidance says these watches require an Android phone for setup and are not compatible with iOS. It lists Android 6.0 or newer and at least 1.5 GB of RAM for the cited compatibility guidance; check the requirements for your particular watch and phone as well.

On an older Tizen Galaxy Watch
- Install Outlook on the connected phone, sign in, and configure the account.
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app on the Android phone, or open the Galaxy Store on the phone or watch.
- Search for Microsoft Outlook and install the listing compatible with your watch.
- Check that the watch is paired and Outlook notifications are enabled on the phone.
Microsoft’s support page retains Galaxy Store installation instructions. Those instructions describe the Tizen-era route; they do not apply to Wear OS models. Store listings and regional availability can change, so confirm the compatible watch listing in your own store rather than assuming every Galaxy Watch supports the same app.
If Outlook is missing or notifications do not arrive
The app does not appear in the store
- Check the watch’s operating system and use the matching storefront: Play Store for Wear OS, Galaxy Store for Tizen.
- Confirm you are viewing a watch-compatible listing, not only the phone app.
- Check that the watch and phone are paired, and that their software and app store are up to date.
- Availability may depend on the watch model and region. The 2019 launch report noted a Galaxy Store link that did not appear to work outside the United States at the time; that historical observation does not establish current regional availability.
Notifications or interactive actions do not work
First confirm Outlook notifications are enabled on the phone. Then check notification permissions for the watch and whether Outlook is blocked in the wearable app. Connection status, background restrictions, or battery optimization can also interfere with delivery. Microsoft’s separate guidance on interactive Outlook notifications for Android-paired watches covers phone notification settings. Interactive notifications are not the same thing as installing the dedicated Outlook watch app.

The watch cannot set up the Outlook account by itself
Set up and sign in to Outlook on the phone first. Microsoft’s wearable instructions rely on phone-configured accounts, so an LTE connection on a watch does not remove that initial setup requirement.

It is most useful if you already use Outlook and want to glance at new mail, check event alerts, or take simple actions without reaching for your phone. It is not a reason by itself to buy a watch, and it does not provide the full email or calendar experience of Outlook on a phone or computer.

Microsoft’s support page continues to describe Outlook for Samsung wearables, but current availability is not guaranteed for every model or region. Before relying on it, search the correct store for your specific watch. The original 2019 release belonged to the Tizen era; a current Wear OS watch follows a different installation path.
