Motors at the knees and carbon-fiber supports are designed to assist leg movement while walking uphill and downhill. It is specialized outdoor equipment—not ordinary trousers with a concealed gadget—and Skip’s advertised assistance figures are company claims, not independently verified results.
What are MO/GO powered pants?
MO/GO combines hiking apparel with a wearable powered exoskeleton. Arc’teryx says the system is integrated with its Gamma Pant, while Skip describes the device as a two-leg system for outdoor recreation. The collaboration was announced by Arc’teryx.
The name and pants format may suggest a self-contained garment, but the functional equipment includes motors, carbon-fiber supports and a battery. Skip describes components that can be removed or snapped on, adjustable carbon-fiber cuffs, and a simple control interface. Those are the manufacturer’s product descriptions, not findings from independent testing. See Skip’s MO/GO product information.
How does the exoskeleton work?
Skip says compact motors at the knees assist flexion and extension—the bending and straightening actions used during a stride. Carbon-fiber supports and cuffs transfer that assistance to the wearer’s legs. The system is intended to help on climbs and support the knees during descents; it is not described as a device that propels the wearer independently.

Skip advertises assistance of up to 40% to leg muscles on the way up. That figure should be read as a company claim: the sources cited here do not establish it as an independently verified result or an outcome that every wearer will experience. The manufacturer also says the battery can recharge during downhill walking and can be swapped to extend range.
Weight and battery range
Skip’s FAQ, accessed in 2026, gives the full system weight as about 2 kg (under 4.5 lb). It estimates 3+ hours or about 6 miles per charge when using full assistance on steep uphill terrain. These are manufacturer specifications for a particular demanding-use description; actual runtime and distance depend on terrain and how the system is used. Skip says an order includes two batteries and that spare batteries will be offered, but availability and compatibility of a specific replacement battery are not established in the cited information. Details are in the Skip FAQ.
Is MO/GO a medical device?
No. Skip says MO/GO is not FDA-approved or classified as a medical device. It should not be presented as a treatment, medically cleared equipment, or a substitute for advice from a healthcare professional. Skip separately describes work on a product related to neurological conditions as under development and not commercially available; that separate effort should not be confused with MO/GO.

Who might find powered hiking pants useful?
The system is aimed at people seeking powered assistance for outdoor walking, especially on ascents and descents. It is a more specialized choice than conventional hiking apparel or passive knee support, and the battery-powered equipment adds weight and complexity. Skip says trekking poles are compatible and that some users pair poles with the system for additional support. There is no independent comparative evidence here to show that MO/GO outperforms poles, braces or other hiking aids.

Launch-era coverage by Futurism in August 2024 reported a planned $5,000 price and a $500 early-adopter discount; those figures are historical context, not a confirmed current price. The same report gave launch-era component weights that do not match Skip’s later FAQ figure for the full system, so they should not be treated as directly comparable. Read the Futurism report for that original coverage.
