A 2017 hands-on review praised its design and comfort, while noting that its flat pushers could feel mushy and its broad dial wears larger than its 40 mm width implies. This is the automatic model—not the visually related VK64 mecha-quartz MK I.
What makes the MK I Automatic distinctive?
The MK I’s design borrows from automotive instrumentation without looking like a conventional round racing chronograph. Sean Lorentzen’s March 8, 2017 hands-on review for Worn & Wound describes a rounded, lugless rectangular case with a double-stepped bezel, mixed polished and brushed surfaces, and elongated, flat chronograph pushers. Together, those details give the watch a smooth-edged, dashboard-like character.
The dial builds on that theme with a sunburst-color surface and a wood-effect panel running across the paired white chronograph subdials. Applied indices, a minute track and an outer tachymeter scale add instrument-style detail; the orange chronograph seconds hand stands out against the dial. A date window sits at six. The combination is more layered than a simple two-register layout, and the wood-effect panel is a defining distinction of the automatic reviewed.
How does it wear?
Worn & Wound lists the automatic at 40 × 44 mm, 15 mm thick, with a 22 mm strap width. Those are specifications reported in the 2017 review, not a current manufacturer specification sheet. The reviewer found that the wide dial and lugless case gave it more wrist presence than the 40 mm width alone suggests. On his 6.75-inch wrist, however, he described it as refined and comfortable. That is one reviewer’s fit impression, not a guarantee for other wrists.

The elongated flat pushers are visually integrated into the case rather than projecting like more traditional chronograph pushers. Lorentzen wrote, “The two elongated flat pushers give the case a much smoother profile than more traditional shaped pushers would.” His practical reservation was that the pushers could feel slightly mushy in operation at times.

Do not confuse it with the VK64 mecha-quartz MK I
Moto Koure also offered an MK I with a VK64 mecha-quartz movement. That is a different variant, despite the shared broad case design and dashboard inspiration. The Time Bum’s December 1, 2016 review covers a burgundy-dial example and describes a quartz timekeeper paired with a mechanical chronograph module. Its dial panel uses a diamond-plate effect rather than the automatic’s wood-effect treatment.

The 13 mm thickness belongs to the reviewed VK64 example; it should not be applied to the NE88 automatic, which Worn & Wound lists at 15 mm. Worn & Wound’s January 8, 2016 introduction also distinguishes the limited automatic option from the VK-series mecha-quartz models.
What should a prospective owner check?
The reviews establish what was written about examples covered in 2016 and 2017; they do not establish present-day stock, asking prices, manufacturer support, service access or replacement-parts availability. The automatic review gave a price of $944 in 2017. That is a historical review-era figure, not a current valuation or buying guide. A private-party listing surfaced for a green-dial automatic, but its page could not be verified; its price, condition, availability and seller claims—including a claim that the brand ceased operations—should not be treated as established facts.

- Confirm that a listing is for the NE88 automatic, not the VK64 mecha-quartz version.
- Ask for clear photographs and documentation of the exact watch, its condition and any service history; the historical reviews do not establish the condition of a watch offered today.
- Before purchase, verify with an appropriately qualified watchmaker whether the movement can be inspected and serviced and whether parts are obtainable. No current official service channel was verified.
- If replacing the strap, treat 22 mm as the width listed for the automatic, but check the lugless case’s attachment geometry and end fit before ordering a generic strap.
Verdict
The MK I Automatic’s appeal is specific: a striking automotive-inspired dial and unusual case shape paired with a Seiko NE88 column-wheel chronograph. The historical hands-on account found it comfortable and refined, but also noted its substantial wrist presence and occasionally mushy-feeling pushers. It is worth considering for its design and movement combination if the example’s identity, condition and service prospects check out; the old review cannot establish today’s market value or ownership support.
