In Sean Ding’s account after roughly six weeks of ownership, it was an entertaining mechanical oddity rather than a discreet, easy-to-read daily watch. Its controls and technical details are unusual enough that a prospective buyer should check the individual example carefully: the available specifications come from an owner review and marketplace listings, not a factory data sheet.
What is the Sorna World Timer?
It is an obscure watch model built around an unusual five-crown layout, calendar displays and world-time elements. Sean Ding’s 2019 Time+Tide review describes a watch with a rotating outer slide-rule bezel, an inner timing bezel and a world-time disk, all wrapped in a colorful, oversized-looking case.
The name has a hazy history. Ding reports that the original Sorna company went into liquidation after the quartz crisis and that a later company used the name; he says the later Kickstarter-era brand appeared to have no association with this watch. That is reported background, not a settled corporate history.
What is it like to wear for six weeks?
A design that refuses to be quiet
Ding describes an outlandish case shape and a dial with bright gold and yellow accents alongside white, red and blue. Its retro styling is deliberately excessive rather than restrained. As he put it, “For me, it’s the sheer ridiculousness of the design that seizes you by the neck and throttles you into liking it.”

Its footprint and fit
Ding compares the watch with a Seiko Turtle: he found it slightly taller, which he attributes to the domed crystal, but shorter lug-to-lug because the lugs do not protrude. The crowns add width, so the case can feel broader than its lug-to-lug measurement suggests.
One Chrono24 seller listing gives a case size of 44 × 41 mm, thickness of 14 mm and lug width of 22 mm. Those are listing-specific measurements, not a universal factory specification. A 22 mm leather strap is a plausible replacement option for an example with that lug width; it should be treated as a fit by measurement, not as an official Sorna accessory.

How do the five crowns and bezels work?
The controls are the practical heart of the watch. Ding’s review assigns the three crowns on the right to setting the hands and calendar indications, and the two crowns on the left to the inner timing bezel and world-time disk. The outer slide-rule bezel turns separately and has a serrated edge.
- Right-side crowns: set the hands and operate the day, date and month indications.
- Left-side crowns: operate the inner timing bezel and the world-time disk.
- Outer bezel: rotates as a slide rule.
The layout makes the watch mechanically engaging, but five controls are also more to learn than a typical watch offers. The review does not give a complete crown-by-crown setting manual, so confirm each crown’s function on the specific watch before turning or pulling it—especially if the calendar is unfamiliar or the seller cannot demonstrate operation.

What specifications are reported—and what remains uncertain?
The sources broadly agree on an automatic movement and 5 ATM/50 m water-resistance marking, but none of the material here is a factory specification sheet. The figures below describe what the owner review or individual marketplace sellers report, rather than independently verified specifications for every Sorna World Timer.

The 50 m and 5 ATM figures are equivalent in ordinary watch-marketing terms, but they do not establish an ISO certification or prove that a particular used watch remains water-resistant. Do not infer swimming suitability from these listings; seals, condition and service history matter, and the sources do not provide a verified test for an individual watch.

Is the Sorna World Timer any good?
It is a good fit for someone who enjoys conspicuous retro design, unusual controls and a watch that invites conversation. Its five crowns and multiple indications offer more mechanical theater than a plain three-hand watch, while the owner’s six-week account suggests that the design’s oddness was a central part of the attraction.
It is a weaker choice if your priorities are thinness, discretion or conventional legibility. The reported 14 mm thickness on one listing, broad crown layout and busy, colorful dial all point toward a substantial wrist presence. The evidence also does not establish controlled accuracy, a long-term service record, or a manufacturer warranty that applies to every example. Movement identification and serviceability should be confirmed with the seller or a qualified watchmaker before purchase.

Where can you find one, and what might it cost?
The Sorna World Timer appears to be mainly a secondary-market watch. Ding wrote in 2019 that examples could be found on eBay for around $200. That is a historical observation, not a current price guide.
Later listings illustrate how much asking prices and configurations can vary. A Chrono24 private-seller example is listed at €999 ($1,189), without its original box or papers, and marked as professionally serviced on 30 July 2026. Catawiki pages show other seller-described examples and auction bids. These are individual listing snapshots, not evidence of a stable market average; condition, completeness, configuration and service documentation can all affect value.
Search for “Sorna World Timer,” “Sorna Worldtimer” and “Sorna Stilento World Timer” on secondary marketplaces. For a specific watch, request clear photographs of the dial, case, crowns and movement; ask the seller to demonstrate the calendar and rotating elements; and establish what the service claim covers. Confirm the return terms and whether box, papers or any service documentation are actually included.
