TAG Heuer describes the split-seconds function as enabling precise timing of two simultaneous events. In practical terms, a split-seconds chronograph—also called a rattrapante—uses an additional seconds hand that can be stopped to record an intermediate time while the main chronograph hand continues. The stopped hand can then catch up with the running hand. This makes it useful for comparing elapsed times that begin together, such as two competitors in a race.
