Breitling’s stated reason was to rebuild Gallet as a luxury, entry-level sibling brand: a distinct heritage name for adventure-minded watches, made and supported using Breitling’s infrastructure. That explains the company’s strategy, not whether customers were asking for the revival. The official announcements reviewed do not quantify consumer demand or show whether the relaunch will succeed.
Breitling’s reason: expand the brand portfolio
Breitling announced it had acquired Gallet on March 18, 2025, ahead of Gallet’s bicentennial year. The company described the move as a “natural next step” in its expansion and said it had a long-term vision of reviving Gallet as a strong watchmaking brand. It positioned Gallet as a luxury, entry-level sibling brand and identified the acquisition as its second notable brand acquisition after Universal Genève in 2023. Breitling’s acquisition announcement
That points to a two-part strategy: add another identity to Breitling’s portfolio, then draw on the parent company’s capabilities to bring it to market. It is a reasonable reading of the announcements, not a disclosed financial plan or evidence of expected returns.
Why Gallet’s history fits the plan
Gallet traces its founding to 1826 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Its brand story centers on chronographs associated with flight, racing, sailing and exploration. That gives the revived brand a ready-made adventure identity distinct from simply selling watches under the Breitling name. The relaunch turns that heritage into the creative platform “The Great Escape—Wanderlust Since 1826,” extending the historical themes into a contemporary travel-and-adventure proposition. Flying Officer: travel as a design reference

MultiChron: sporting and tool-watch associations
The MultiChron Clamshell and later MultiChron models supply the water-resistant and sporting watch references in Gallet’s account. The relaunch also connects the MultiChron Regulator to racing driver Rex Mays. Those connections help explain the Pilot and Sport names in the new collection, but they are brand-presented history rather than independent verification. What the September 2026 relaunch includes

What the listed prices and specifications show
The official US collection page displayed the Flying Officer Chronograph 40 at USD 4,400 and Gallet Classics models at USD 6,700 when accessed. These are page observations, not fixed global prices; tax, market, configuration and availability can change. Gallet’s US collection page

For one reference-level example, the official US page for Multichron Pilot Chronograph 42 reference AG2303251B1A1 displayed USD 4,600 excluding sales tax. It listed a 42 mm stainless-steel case, 15.25 mm thickness, 100 m water resistance, self-winding Gallet 23 caliber, chronograph timing to 1/4 second and 30 minutes, and approximately 65 hours of power reserve. The figures establish that Gallet returned with a defined product range and published specifications. They do not establish how many people want the watches, how well they will sell, or whether the revival will prove commercially successful.

What the announcements can—and cannot—answer
Breitling’s and Gallet’s statements explain management’s rationale: restore a historic name, give it a distinctive adventure-and-chronograph identity, and make the watches within Breitling’s manufacturing, technical, after-sales and global distribution infrastructure. Gallet Managing Director Erwan Rossignol described that arrangement as a way to honor the heritage while providing the quality, reliability and service expected of a modern Swiss watch brand. Those are company explanations, not proof of consumer demand. The official announcements do not provide a demand statistic, sales result or independent market evidence. So “Nobody was asking” works as a pointed question, but it is not established as a factual claim about what watch buyers wanted. The clearest answer is that Breitling saw a strategic role for Gallet; whether customers will embrace it remains unknown.
