One UI 8 Watch Icons Leak: What Samsung’s Redesigned Watch Interface Actually Changed

The One UI 8 Watch icon leak was an early, genuine glimpse—not a full feature list. Samsung has since released the Wear OS 6-based software on some watches, with new controls and navigation features.

The One UI 8 Watch icon leak offered a genuine early glimpse of Samsung’s updated wearable design, but it is no longer just a rumor: Samsung’s software has since rolled out on some Galaxy Watches. The leaked icons suggested a brighter, more rounded look influenced by One UI 7; the released update added practical changes such as a Now bar, double-pinch controls and app-list options. Availability and features vary by watch model, country and network operator.

What leaked in May 2025

On May 7, 2025, Android Authority reported a set of Samsung watch app icons attributed to leaker IposDev. The images included redesigned Samsung app icons and a Gemini-like assistant icon. They were reported as software assets, not an official Samsung announcement or a complete preview of the finished interface. Android Authority’s leak report also said some One UI 8 Watch APKs were available for examination but reportedly could not be installed on older watches; that was a report about those files, not proof that every related package would fail on every older device.

Firmware or app assets are stronger evidence of a product direction than a fan-made concept, but they do not establish that every image will appear unchanged in a public release. The leak showed selected icons, not a verified complete icon library or a full set of system screens.

What the leaked icons looked like

The reported designs appeared to borrow from Samsung’s One UI 7 phone icons, with stronger contrast and a prominent white edge or background. The watch treatment looked more rounded than the phone versions. Coverage was not conclusive about whether the underlying shapes were squircle-like or would appear fully circular in the watch launcher, so the leak alone did not settle the final geometry. Android Headlines’ coverage likewise described the One UI 7 connection and white edging.

  • YOUR RUN, YOUR COACH: Step up your running routine with a Running Coach³ that analyzes your performance and gives you real-time feedback. Training for an event? Try specific programs built for 5Ks, marathons and more.
  • NEW DESIGN. LIGHTWEIGHT FEEL: Maximize your days with a minimalist design. The sleek, thinner-than-ever silhouette makes Galaxy Watch8 look as good as it functions. With a snug fit and sporty style, it gives you readings without getting in your way.
  • A PERSONAL ASSISTANT, RIGHT ON YOUR WRIST: Your Watch just became your personal assistant.⁴ Stay one step ahead of your day with a watch that helps you navigate your tasks and to-do lists.

On a small circular display, bolder edges could help distinguish icons at a glance; that is a plausible design rationale, not an explanation Samsung confirmed. A white rim might also feel visually heavy against a dark watch face, and a refreshed icon set by itself does not mean the interface is faster or easier to navigate. The practical test is whether the finished launcher makes apps easier to identify and reach, not whether the icons look newer in isolation.

What the Gemini icon did—and did not—show

The Gemini-like icon was a clue that the assistant transition on Wear OS was in motion, not proof that Gemini was already working on every Galaxy Watch. Android Authority reported that some early appearances of an updated icon still opened Google Assistant. That kind of mismatch can happen when a visual asset changes before the underlying service or rollout does.

  • TRACK YOUR NIGHTS. OWN YOUR DAYS: Galaxy Watch9 gives you personalized recommendations and habit-building guidance with Advanced Sleep Coaching.⁶ Plus, Bedtime Guidance⁷ helps you find your optimal bedtime so you can wake up feeling refreshed.

Whether Gemini is available on a particular watch can depend on the device, connected phone, account, language, region and Google service rollout. Do not treat the presence of an icon as confirmation that Gemini has replaced Assistant on your watch, or that every Gemini capability is supported.

One UI 8 Watch is released software, not just a leak

One UI 8 Watch is based on Wear OS 6, according to 9to5Google’s beta coverage. That is not Wear OS 8: Samsung’s One UI version number and Google’s Wear OS base version are separate labels. The jump from One UI 6 Watch reporting to One UI 8 Watch indicated a version-number change; it does not establish that Samsung formally canceled an entire One UI 7 Watch development cycle.

Samsung’s official Galaxy Watch FE update history lists One UI 8 Watch build R861XXU1CYK6, dated December 11, 2025, and subsequent entries dated March 26 and June 22, 2026. This confirms the update reached at least the Watch FE, not that every Galaxy Watch received it. Samsung’s page warns that software changes can vary by model, country and network operator; check the support history for your exact model and region.

What the update adds beyond icons

More visible ongoing activity

Samsung’s Watch FE update notes describe the Now bar, which puts ongoing activities at the bottom of the watch face. The notes also say that information from surfaces such as weather, calendar events and reminders can appear there, giving users a way to see current items without opening each app.

  • QUICK UPDATES, AT A GLANCE: Get updates, select apps and more with Now Bar³,⁴ and an improved user experience. Now Bar conveniently puts the info you use the most - like weather, news and more - right on your main Watch screen

Double-pinch controls

Pinching the thumb and index finger together twice can control notifications, music, camera functions and more, according to Samsung’s notes. Actions can be customized in contexts including the watch face, music controller, alarm, calendar and reminders. The exact action depends on the app and context, so this is not a universal gesture for every screen.

More ways to find apps and manage reminders

The Apps screen can prioritize frequently used apps, or show apps in a name-based list instead of only an icon layout. Users can also choose which calendars appear on the watch. Samsung’s notes add that reminders can be marked with a star and pinned as important.

Health and fitness additions

9to5Google’s beta coverage reported Running Coach, Antioxidant Index, Vascular Load and Bedtime Guidance. These should not be read as guaranteed features on every updated watch: some were described as Labs features, availability can depend on hardware and rollout, and the report said Running Coach required a running-level test while Bedtime Guidance required at least three nights of sleep tracking. Samsung’s Watch FE notes confirm the update features listed for that model; they do not establish that every beta-reported health feature is available on the FE or all other watches.

Which watches should expect One UI 8 Watch?

Eligibility is model-specific. The official Watch FE history confirms that model received One UI 8 Watch, while the cited beta coverage reported that the Galaxy Watch 4 series was excluded from the update under discussion. That report is not a substitute for checking Samsung’s current support information for an individual model. An update to the operating system also does not guarantee every health or assistant feature: sensors, phone compatibility, region and service rollout can impose separate limits.

Rollout timing can differ by country, carrier and software build. If the update is not showing on your watch, check Samsung’s support page for its exact model and region rather than inferring eligibility from another Galaxy Watch’s update history.

What the leak got right—and what it could not prove

Claim or clue What can be said
Samsung was refreshing watch icons The 2025 reports showed updated icon assets; later coverage described a modest visual refresh.
The design drew on One UI 7 The leak reports identified a visual relationship to Samsung’s phone icons.
The icons would be circular or squircle-shaped The original reporting did not conclusively establish the final geometry.
The Gemini icon meant Gemini was active No. Early reports included cases where the icon still opened Assistant.
Every leaked feature would ship on every watch The icons did not prove a feature list or universal model eligibility.
The update would improve battery life or performance The cited reporting and Samsung update notes do not establish that.

What Galaxy Watch owners should do

  1. Check the exact model. Use Samsung’s software-update history for your watch model and region; do not assume another model’s rollout applies to yours.
  2. Install through official channels. Wait for the update notification or check in the Galaxy Wearable app. Avoid sideloading leaked APKs on a primary watch.
  3. Back up before a major update. Keep watch data backed up before installing system software.
  4. Check feature requirements separately. Confirm sensor, phone, language and regional support for any health or assistant feature you want to use.
  5. Base a purchase on the watch, not the icons. Verify software eligibility and the specific health, gesture and hardware features for the exact model. An icon refresh alone is not a strong reason to replace a working watch.
