Pebble returned to CES in January 2026 with the Pebble Round 2, a round smartwatch built around color e-paper, physical buttons and PebbleOS. The company estimates about two weeks of battery life and describes the watch as a simple daily companion with basic step and sleep tracking—not a dedicated sports or fitness watch. “Open source” applies to the new PebbleOS and mobile app ecosystem; it should not be confused with Google’s earlier, incomplete release of source code for the older Pebble operating system.
What Pebble announced at CES 2026
In an announcement dated January 2, 2026, Pebble said it would exhibit at CES for the first time, at the Venetian Expo in Eureka Park, Hall G, booth 60247. Its headline product was the Pebble Round 2, a return to the round design of the earlier Time Round, with a larger screen and longer stated battery life. Pebble’s announcement frames it as a new watch rather than a revival of the original hardware.
Pebble’s launch announcement listed a $199 preorder price and said shipping would begin in May, but that sentence did not specify a year. Those are historical launch terms, not a current price or delivery commitment; check Pebble’s official catalog for current availability and terms.
Round 2 specifications and what they mean
| Feature | Pebble’s announced specification | Practical context |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 1.3-inch color e-paper; 260 × 260 pixels at 200 DPI | E-paper is the defining display choice. The announcement gives resolution and color, but does not provide independent readability or display-performance testing. |
| Controls | Four physical buttons, touchscreen and backlight | Buttons provide a tactile alternative to touch control; the watch offers both input styles. |
| Battery | About two weeks, estimated by Pebble | This is a manufacturer estimate, not an independently verified test result. Real-world runtime is not established by the announcement. |
| Case and water resistance | Stainless steel; 8.1 mm thick; 30 m water-resistance target | The announcement calls 30 m a target. It does not establish independent certification or testing. |
| Sensors and audio | Accelerometer, magnetometer, vibration motor and dual microphones | Pebble lists these components; their presence does not make the watch a dedicated sports tracker. |
| Health features | Basic step and sleep tracking | Pebble says Round 2 is not designed as a fitness or sports watch. |
| Phone support | iOS and Android smartphones | Voice input and message replies were Android-only at announcement; Pebble said iOS support in the EU would follow. |
Colors, bands and what comes in the box
Pebble listed matte black with a 20 mm band, brushed silver with either a 14 mm or 20 mm band, and polished rose gold with a 14 mm band. The box includes a silicone band and Pebble charge dongle. The company says standard quick-release bands are compatible, provided the band width matches the watch variant.

What “open source” means for Pebble Round 2
Pebble says Round 2 runs open-source PebbleOS and that its mobile app is also open source. Developers can use the SDK to make apps and watchfaces. At the time of the January 2026 announcement, Pebble said its app store contained more than 15,000 apps and watchfaces. That count is Pebble’s figure for its store at that date, not an independent audit.
This is distinct from Google’s January 2025 publication of much of the source code for the older Pebble operating system. Google said proprietary components—particularly chipset support and the Bluetooth stack—were removed, and that the repository would not compile or link as released. It is therefore inaccurate to treat that historical repository by itself as a complete, buildable firmware release. Google’s account of the older code release also reported more than two million smartwatches sold over four years and more than 10,000 developer-created apps and watchfaces; those historical figures have different dates and scopes from Pebble’s 2026 store count.

Who may value Round 2—and who may want something else
A fit for button-first, low-fuss smartwatch use
- You prefer tactile buttons alongside a touchscreen.
- You want a round stainless-steel watch with a color e-paper display rather than a conventional smartwatch display.
- You value Pebble’s open software ecosystem and access to its apps and watchfaces.
- Your smartwatch needs are centered on everyday functions and basic step or sleep tracking, rather than sports training.
Consider alternatives if sports tracking is the priority
Pebble explicitly says Round 2 is not designed as a fitness or sports watch. Its listed step and sleep tracking should not be read as evidence of advanced training, workout or health-monitoring features. Likewise, the roughly two-week runtime is Pebble’s estimate, not a comparative result against other watches. The available specifications do not establish a controlled competitor comparison.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is—and is not—established
The announcement establishes what Pebble said it planned to offer: a 1.3-inch color e-paper display, four buttons, smartphone compatibility, basic tracking, and an estimated two-week battery life. It does not establish independent battery performance, real-world display results, or a controlled comparison with competing watches. CES gave Pebble a venue to present the product and its open-source direction; buyers should use current official listings for purchase status rather than relying on the launch offer.
