Google launched it on the Pixel Watch 4 with the December 2025 Wear OS 6.1 update, then expanded it to the Pixel Watch 3 in March 2026. It is supported on Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 4 running Wear OS 6.1 or later.
What is Pixel Watch Double pinch?
Double pinch is a one-handed control gesture. Tap your index finger and thumb together twice while wearing the watch, and it can perform an action without touching the display.

It is not the same as double-tapping the screen, pinch-to-zoom, or an accessibility gesture. Its behavior is contextual: the available action depends on the screen or app currently open. Google may show a hint where Double pinch is supported.

Which update enabled it?
December 2025: Pixel Watch 4 launch
Double pinch and the related Wrist turn gesture first arrived on the Pixel Watch 4 in the December 2025 Wear OS 6.1 update. Google’s announcement and rollout information are available through its Pixel Watch 4 update post.
March 2026: Pixel Watch 3 expansion
The March 2026 Pixel Watch update brought the one-handed gestures to the Pixel Watch 3. That means describing Double pinch as a brand-new March feature is incomplete: March was the expansion date for Watch 3, while Watch 4 received it months earlier.
Google listed these March builds:
- Bluetooth/Wi-Fi models:
CP1A.260305.014.W2 - LTE models:
CP1A.260305.014.W4
Rollouts can vary by model configuration and carrier. The Bluetooth/Wi-Fi rollout began before the LTE rollout. The build numbers identify Google’s update documentation; they are not an instruction to install an unofficial OTA manually.

What can Double pinch do?
Google documents these supported uses:
- Notifications: Scroll through alerting notifications.
- Smart Replies: Select the first available Smart Reply in supported contexts.
- Alarms: Snooze a firing alarm.
- Timers and stopwatches: Start or stop an active timer or stopwatch, and stop a firing timer.
- Camera: Take a photo or start and stop video recording in the Camera app.
- Media: Play or pause media.
These are contextual actions, not universal controls for every watch screen or third-party app. Wrist turn can also close an expanded notification, but it is a separate gesture that can be managed independently.
How to turn on Double pinch
One-handed gestures are enabled by default, but you can check or change the setting on the watch:

You can also open Settings → Gestures → Hand gestures, find the Education section, choose Hand gestures, and tap Continue. A post-update “What’s new” notification or a “Day 1” tutorial may appear, but neither is required.
How to test Double pinch
Start with a documented, easy-to-confirm action:
- Play media on the watch and double-pinch to test play or pause.
- Open an incoming notification and test scrolling.
- Set a short timer and test starting or stopping it.
- Open the Camera app and test taking a photo.
The same motion can produce a different result on another screen. If it works with media but not in an unsupported app, that does not necessarily indicate a hardware problem.
Rank #4

What to do if Double pinch is missing or does nothing
The toggle is missing
- Confirm that the watch is a Pixel Watch 3 or Pixel Watch 4.
- Check that it runs Wear OS 6.1 or later.
- Install pending watch and app updates.
- Recheck Settings → Gestures → Hand gestures.
- Check the same menu in the Google Pixel Watch phone app.
- If the update recently installed, restart the watch and check again.
For a Pixel Watch 3, also account for the phased March 2026 expansion. A watch may have an earlier software update without yet having the feature rollout available. The restart step is general troubleshooting rather than a Google-confirmed fix.
The toggle is on, but nothing happens
Test a supported context such as media playback, an active alarm, a timer, a notification, or the Camera app. Because Double pinch is context-sensitive, failure in one screen does not prove that the feature is unavailable everywhere.
It triggers an unwanted action
Check the on-screen hint and make sure the intended app or notification is active. If accidental activation becomes disruptive, turn Double pinch off under Settings → Gestures → Hand gestures. Google’s documented settings do not include a sensitivity slider, so do not expect to fine-tune the gesture strength.
Best Value
- The Google Pixel Watch 3 is designed for performance, with advanced fitness from Fitbit[1,2]; the 45mm screen is twice as bright and 40% larger than before, making it easier to see your stats and info[1]
- Maximize your performance with advanced running features; build custom run workouts and get real-time guidance and advanced form tracking[3]
- Enhance your run routine with Fitbit Premium; Google AI uses your goals, past runs, and readiness to power personalized run recommendations[3]
- Know what your body is ready for each day with readiness; it uses sleep, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability to show if you’re ready to take on a workout or prioritize recovery[3]
- Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]
Is Double pinch worth using?
It is most useful when your other hand is occupied or touching the display would be inconvenient—for example, pausing music, snoozing an alarm, scrolling a notification, or taking a remote photo. Its limitations are equally important: it is context-dependent, supports a defined set of actions, and is not a universal replacement for touchscreen controls.
Google does not publish a reliability score or a broad compatibility list for every app. Claims that it is universally reliable or universally buggy would go beyond the documented evidence.
Bottom line
Pixel Watch Double pinch is a real, live feature for Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 4 devices running Wear OS 6.1 or later. Pixel Watch 4 received it in December 2025; Pixel Watch 3 received it through the March 2026 update. If you own a compatible watch, check Settings → Gestures → Hand gestures before assuming you need new hardware. Google does not currently list the first-generation Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch 2 as supported.
