Is the Hodinkee edition powered by the Lemania 5100?
No. The Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition for Hodinkee uses Porsche Design’s WERK 01.340, not a vintage Lemania 5100. Porsche Design says the new calibre was developed with Hodinkee and inspired by the historic movement’s architecture. Hodinkee describes the project as restoring the Lemania 5100’s central chronograph-minute function in a modern movement.
That distinction matters: this is a functional and design reference, not a reissue with the original calibre inside. The Lemania 5100 is known for its central chronograph-minute hand, small seconds at 9 o’clock, 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and 24-hour day/night display at 12 o’clock, according to Porsche Design’s pressroom release.
What is WERK 01.340?
WERK 01.340 is the new Porsche Design calibre used in this edition. The brand’s product listing says it was developed with Hodinkee and inspired by the Lemania 5100’s movement architecture. Hodinkee says development took more than four years and lists a central chronograph-minute function, a “chrono jump minute,” quick-set date, COSC certification, and a 60-hour power reserve.

Those are launch specifications attributed to Hodinkee’s feature, rather than independent test findings. The available launch materials do not establish an independent performance test or a separate certification-database record.
What are the watch’s specifications?
Hodinkee’s launch feature describes a 40.8 mm bead-blasted titanium case, 100 m (330 ft) water resistance, and a matte black, high-contrast dial. The display includes a 12-hour outer scale and a bilingual English/German day display. The caseback is closed and carries the edition numbering.

Hodinkee also reports that the watch is made at Porsche Design’s watch manufactory in Grenchen, Switzerland. These construction and performance details are launch-source specifications; confirm exact production details with the seller if they are material to a purchase decision.

Both use a quick-change system. The leather strap’s clasp also has pushers. The launch description does not establish compatibility with unrelated aftermarket straps or bracelets.

Porsche Design dates its first Chronograph 1 to 1972, the start of the company’s watch story. Hodinkee’s launch feature says that in the late 1970s, air and naval forces approached Porsche Design with operational requirements for watches. The resulting military chronographs inform the instrument-style layout of this Hodinkee collaboration.

The connection to the Lemania 5100 is therefore especially functional: the new watch brings the central chronograph-minute display into a modern Chronograph 1 design, rather than reproducing a particular vintage watch or using its original movement.
What to compare with a vintage Lemania 5100 Chronograph 1
A useful comparison starts with the movement and the specific vintage reference, rather than treating every Lemania-powered Chronograph 1 as identical.
