Apple has not been verified as releasing a new Powerbeats Pro 2 firmware update “ahead of launch.” Powerbeats Pro 2 is already available to buy. The latest clearly identified release in the supplied reporting is firmware 8A359, reported on December 16, 2025. Apple did not publish a detailed changelog, so owners should update if the firmware arrives—but should not expect confirmed new features.
What was actually released?
The firmware version linked to the Powerbeats Pro 2 story is 8A359. It was reported on December 16, 2025, by 9to5Mac.
That report said Apple had not provided official release notes. Bug fixes and performance improvements were the likely explanation, but they were not documented as confirmed changes. There is no reliable basis for claiming that 8A359 improved sound quality, battery life, active noise cancellation, or heart-rate accuracy.
The “ahead of launch” wording is also outdated in the current context. Apple lists Powerbeats Pro 2 for sale in the U.S. at $249.99, with heart-rate monitoring, active noise cancellation, Transparency mode, Adaptive EQ, wireless charging, and up to 45 hours of battery life. See the Apple product page for current availability and regional details.

Do not confuse this with the June 2026 Beats update
Apple’s June 16, 2026 security bulletin concerns Beats Studio Buds firmware 1B211—not Powerbeats Pro 2. That bulletin should not be used as evidence of a Powerbeats Pro 2 release. Apple’s bulletin is available at Apple Support.
What does Apple confirm about firmware-dependent features?
Apple’s Beats guide says the latest firmware is required for selected capabilities, including heart-rate monitoring during workouts, head gestures for calls, and automatic pausing when you fall asleep. That confirms a firmware requirement, but it does not prove that version 8A359 introduced any of those features.

How the update installs
There is normally no manual firmware-download button. Beats firmware is delivered automatically while compatible headphones are paired with and within Bluetooth range of an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, according to Apple.

To give the update the best chance to install:
- Turn on Bluetooth on the iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Connect Powerbeats Pro 2.
- Fully charge the earbuds, or connect the charging case to power.
- Put both earbuds in the case and close the lid.
- Keep the case near the paired device for at least 30 minutes.
- Reconnect the earbuds and check the firmware version again.
Firmware can roll out gradually, so different owners may temporarily see different versions. Depending on the operating system, the displayed version may represent the case or the connected earbuds differently.

Try these steps in order:
- Charge both earbuds and the case.
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled.
- Keep the closed case close to the paired device for at least 30 minutes.
- Reconnect the earbuds and check again.
- Install available updates for the paired iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device.
- If connection behavior is abnormal, forget or unpair the Beats and pair them again.
- Reset the earbuds only if the less disruptive steps fail.
Apple’s troubleshooting guidance recommends updating the paired device, then unpairing and pairing the Beats again when they are not working as expected. Do not download firmware from third-party sites or use unofficial flashing tools. See Apple’s unpairing instructions.

Should you buy Powerbeats Pro 2 because of this update?
No—not because of the firmware alone. The undocumented 8A359 release is not evidence of a hardware revision or a major feature expansion. Existing owners should accept the update when it becomes available because routine firmware changes can improve reliability without producing an obvious visible change. But buyers should judge Powerbeats Pro 2 on its hardware package: earhook fit, physical controls, heart-rate monitoring, ANC, Transparency mode, wireless charging, and battery life.
Apple’s official buying page is the appropriate place to check the current U.S. price and availability. The firmware story should not be presented as a reason to replace a working pair.
Bottom line
The defensible version of the story is that Powerbeats Pro 2 firmware 8A359 was reported on December 16, 2025, with no public Apple changelog. Powerbeats Pro 2 has already launched and is sold at retail. Check your version, leave the charged case near a paired device for at least 30 minutes, and update if offered—but do not assume undocumented improvements or confuse the June 2026 Beats Studio Buds update with a Powerbeats Pro 2 release.
