Their clearest difference was the case: the Mk III lost its crown guards and had a satin finish, while the Mk IV kept its crown guards and received a matte black carbon coating. Both were described with a blacked-out bezel, no cyclops, reed-green STEALTH dial text, fixed bars and NATO straps.
What were the Project X STEALTH Mk III and Mk IV?
Project X Designs customized the ceramic Rolex Submariner to create the STEALTH Mk III and Mk IV. Monochrome’s 24 February 2011 account explicitly described the Mk III as based on the Submariner Ceramic Rolex had released at Baselworld the previous year. That is contemporary reporting, not a Rolex statement. Monochrome also said Rolex and Project X had no official connection, so neither watch should be described as a factory Rolex edition. How did the Mk III and Mk IV differ?
| Feature | Mk III | Mk IV |
|---|---|---|
| Crown guards | Removed | Retained |
| Case treatment | Satin finish, as characterized by Monochrome | Matte black carbon coating |
| Historical launch price | £8,750, announced by Monochrome Watches in 2011 | £9,950, announced by Monochrome Watches in 2011 |
The contemporary reports described both versions with a black-out bezel, removed cyclops, reed-green STEALTH lettering on the dial, military-style fixed bars and NATO-strap presentation. Monochrome said the fixed bars prevented attaching the original steel bracelet. The reports do not state strap width, and they do not establish compatibility with any particular replacement strap. What were the edition sizes and delivery dates?
Monochrome reported that each version was limited to 28 pieces. It announced planned deliveries for the Mk III at the end of March 2011 and for the Mk IV in early April 2011. OceanicTime’s 6 March 2011 report also described both as 28-piece editions and gave the same prices and late-March-to-early-April delivery window. These are launch-era statements, not evidence that either model is available now. Monochrome Watches · OceanicTime

What is known about the military inspiration?
OceanicTime attributed the design inspiration to the Royal Marines’ Special Boat Service (SBS) and described the case-back motif and motto as related to SBS insignia. The available contemporary coverage does not establish a definitive military-history account, so the watches’ inspiration should not be expanded into broader claims about the SBS. Monochrome’s article contains a corrected historical error about the relationship between the SBS and SAS; its original claim should not be repeated as fact. OceanicTime · Monochrome Watches
