Conceived by a small team in Japan as a way to mark the end of focused work—not primarily to wake its wearer—the mechanical watch pairs that unusual sound-making arrangement with a rotating setting bezel, dedicated alarm hands, and a single multifunction crown button. The details below come from a MONOCHROME Watches interview published on 6 October 2024; its production figures were plans at that time, not confirmation of current availability.
Who created Quiet Club’s alarm watch?
MONOCHROME Watches interviewed Quiet Club’s three principal collaborators on 6 October 2024: CEO HK Ueda, head of design Johnny Ting, and head of watchmaking Norifumi Seki. Ueda and Ting had worked together at a previous startup and shared an interest in watches. Their backgrounds in automotive work and user experience led them to begin with a practical question: what could a watch do in daily life? Rather than start by adapting an existing watch’s appearance, they approached Seki after learning about his watchmaking work in Japan.
Seki brought independent watchmaking experience to the project. He described a graduation pocket watch featuring a spherical moon phase and vertically rotating date drums, made during his final year at watchmaking school. In the interview, he said it won the F.P. Journe Young Talent Competition in 2020.
The founders described Quiet Club as a community built around working quietly, purposefully, and with focus. Seki connected the idea with finding one’s place and fulfilling one’s role. Those descriptions explain the team’s intent; they do not establish the size or characteristics of the brand’s audience.

Why design an alarm for focused work?
Ueda and Ting said they could lose track of time while working and used phone alarms, but disliked the distractions that came with using a phone. Their response was to explore a mechanical alarm watch that could mark the end of a work period without bringing a phone into the routine.
Seki put the distinction plainly: “It’s an alarm but the main use is not to wake you up or alert you of something.” The stated aim was for the sound to help the wearer enter a focused state and then draw them out of it gently. This is the designers’ intended use, not a demonstrated effect or a claim that the watch suits every work habit.

The founders contrasted the sound they wanted with alarms they considered loud or intrusive, citing the Cricket and the Memovox. They said they were drawn instead to the more musical character they associate with a minute repeater. That comparison describes their taste and design rationale; the interview supplies no measured acoustic results and does not establish that the Quiet Club watch sounds like a minute repeater.
How does the alarm mechanism work?
The dial is the gong
In the watch’s central engineering reversal, the visible dial also serves as the gong. A vertically mounted hammer strikes it to produce the alarm. Seki said arranging the gong, hammer, and the rest of the mechanism within the watch was a major challenge. Because the dial has an acoustic function as well as a visual one, it is polished and finished in-house.

Bezel, alarm hands, and crown button
The wearer sets the alarm using a rotating bezel. Seki said this was more ergonomic on the wrist than setting the alarm with the crown. Dedicated alarm hour and minute hands show the selected time. A single multifunction button integrated into the crown serves as the set, start, and stop control; each push also charges the alarm mechanism. Seki said this arrangement avoided adding a second crown or a slider for charging.
What is made in-house?
The interview distinguishes between the timekeeping components and the watchmaker’s own work. The basic timekeeping portion uses some off-the-shelf components, such as springs; Seki said he made the balance wheel himself and designed the rest of the mechanism from scratch. Parts were made in Quiet Club’s Tokyo workshop, where he assembled and hand-finished them. A Tokyo supplier made the case to Quiet Club’s design.

What are the case and wearability details?
MONOCHROME described a 40 mm grade 5 titanium case. Ting said its slightly bowl-shaped form places the lugs underneath, reducing the lug-to-lug length and avoiding a visible gap between the case and strap. The founders chose titanium with the goal of keeping the watch relatively light and comfortable over extended wear. The interview gives no measured weight or independent fit assessment, so those comfort points remain design intentions rather than verified outcomes.
What was known about production, price, and availability?
In the October 2024 interview, Ueda said Quiet Club was aiming to make about 10 watches in its first year and hoped to reach about 20 per year afterward. He also said the first run would have one design. These were targets and hopes stated at the time, not verified production totals or current output.
