Its oil-filled design is intended to make the dial appear closer and less obscured by the crystal. Ressence lists the current TYPE 5 at 46 mm across, 15.5 mm thick and 10 ATM, which the manufacturer says is ISO certified to 100 m; that specification alone does not establish suitability for a particular dive.
How the TYPE 5’s oil-filled display works
The TYPE 5 uses Ressence’s patented Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS 5). Rather than conventional hands rotating over a fixed dial, its display is a convex module with eccentric, biaxial satellites. Ressence says the module is driven by the minute axle of a customized 2824/2 base calibre.
The upper chamber holds 3.57 ml of oil and the lower chamber houses the base calibre in air. Ressence explains that oil and glass respond similarly to refraction, making the dial appear closer and reducing the visual obstruction of the glass. It also says the ROCS is suspended in oil and continuously lubricated. These are the manufacturer’s explanations; no independent legibility comparison or test result is established here. What the display shows
Ressence lists hours, minutes, a runner that completes a 90-second rotation, and an oil-temperature indication among the TYPE 5 functions. The convex dial carries three eccentric biaxial satellites. The manufacturer specifies inclinations of 3° for the hours indication and 4.75° for the thermal gauge and runner.

How to set, wind and operate it
The TYPE 5 uses a caseback control system rather than a conventional crown for winding and time setting. Ressence calls it the Ressence Compression Lock System (RCLS). For the exact operating sequence and strap-changing instructions, use the current official TYPE 5 video guide and downloadable PDF manual; do not infer crown-style controls from the watch’s appearance.

Ownership, service and manufacturing detail
Ressence’s product listing states a two-year warranty and links to maintenance support. Consult the current warranty terms and service channel for coverage, eligibility and maintenance instructions rather than assuming they are identical across regions or purchase routes.
Ressence says its oil-filled TYPE 3, TYPE 5 and TYPE 7 models are filled and sealed at −5 °C, when the oil’s volume is at a minimum. This is a manufacturing detail, not an owner adjustment or filling procedure. The company’s oil-filled technology explanation describes the design and its stated rationale.
