Robert Lighton’s watches were presented as bargains in a 2009 Fratello article, which reported closeout prices starting at $695 and a Hudson reduction from about $3,000 to $795. Those are historical prices, not evidence of an active sale or today’s value. The article’s standout was the Hudson, a mechanical watch described in two sizes with a sterling-silver case and enamel dial.

In his May 15, 2009 article, Robert-Jan Broer covered the Hudson, Empire, San Remo, and Algonquin. Can a Robert Lighton watch get wet?
In a comment dated July 19, 2009, Broer said the watches could handle rain and probably a splash, but advised removing them before showering, swimming, or washing dishes by hand. He also noted that the crown was not screw-down. This is a dated author comment, not a model-specific water-resistance rating or a current manufacturer specification. Without a verified rating for the particular watch, do not treat it as suitable for water exposure.
What should you check before buying one today?
The 2009 article documents historical models and a past closeout, but does not establish present availability or current pricing. If you find a listing, evaluate the individual watch rather than relying on the old sale figures:

- Verify the movement: The article says most models used ETA movements and identifies a Soprod movement for the Hudson. Confirm the movement in the example being offered.
