Which Rolex Daytona models have mother-of-pearl dials?
The two documented references are 126589RBR and 126579RBR. Rolex’s brochures identify both as 18 ct white-gold Cosmograph Daytonas with mother-of-pearl dials. How the two references differ

Both configurations have eight diamond hour markers and three Chromalight hour markers. Rolex says it selects and positions the natural mother-of-pearl discs to bring out colour intensity and contrast, using a technically demanding process. The dial, counter and bracelet combination—not just the phrase “mother-of-pearl Daytona”—is the clearest way to distinguish the two.
What the mother-of-pearl dial means for identification
The counters are also mother-of-pearl, in a contrasting colour to the main dial. This is not simply a white or black dial with ordinary contrasting subdials. Because natural mother-of-pearl varies in appearance, the two colour descriptions identify the official arrangements, but should not be taken to mean every individual dial will look identical.

When evaluating a listing, compare its stated reference with the bracelet and dial configuration in the table. A watch advertised as one of these references but showing a different arrangement warrants careful verification: Rolex’s brochures and launch description document these specific factory configurations, not aftermarket dial changes. Check the watch’s reference, seller, condition and authenticity documentation; a listing description alone does not establish that a dial is factory-original.
Daytona context and family specifications
Rolex says the Cosmograph Daytona launched in 1963 as a chronograph intended for professional racing drivers. The model’s chronograph measures elapsed time, while its tachymetric scale can be used to calculate average speed over a known distance. Rolex says the scale measures speeds up to 400 units per hour. Rolex’s Daytona family information gives a 40 mm Oyster case, water resistance to 100 metres (330 feet), and calibre 4131, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement with an approximately 72-hour power reserve. These are family-level specifications; verify the exact reference and model year when assessing a particular watch.

Rolex’s 2024 launch material establishes that it presented both references, but the available official information does not establish whether either exact reference remains in production or on Rolex’s current retail list.
