The Rolex Deepsea ref. 126660 debuted at Baselworld 2018 as a substantial update to the 44 mm Sea-Dweller Deepsea: it brought the calibre 3235 movement, revised case and lug proportions, and a wider Oyster bracelet with an adapted clasp. It retained the Deepsea’s 3,900-metre depth rating and was offered with either a black dial or the gradient D-blue dial. The prices below are its reported 2018 launch prices, not current retail or resale values.
What changed at Baselworld 2018?
Rolex presented the 126660 as an update to the existing 44 mm Deepsea, not as a new size or a change in its headline depth rating. The notable revisions were inside the case and at the points where the case meets the bracelet.
- New movement: The 126660 was the first Deepsea fitted with Rolex calibre 3235, replacing the movement used in the preceding reference.
- Revised case shape: Rolex redesigned the lugs and case sides. The case remained 44 mm across.
- Wider bracelet and adapted clasp: The Oyster bracelet was broadened, and Rolex adapted the Oysterlock folding safety clasp to suit it. Independent launch coverage reports a 22 mm lug/bracelet width, compared with 21 mm for the preceding reference.
Those changes alter the watch’s proportions, but they do not establish that it will feel more comfortable on every wrist. Fit depends on the wearer, and the published dimensions are not a substitute for trying the watch on.

Rolex’s published accuracy tolerance applies to the finished watch after casing. The movement first receives COSC certification; Rolex then tests the completed watch under its own Superlative Chronometer standard. The approximately 70-hour reserve is Rolex’s stated specification, not a guarantee of identical performance in every watch or use pattern.

How deep can the 126660 go?
Rolex rates the Deepsea ref. 126660 waterproof to 3,900 metres (12,800 feet). Its Ringlock case architecture is designed to manage the immense external pressure at that depth. Rolex describes a thick sapphire crystal, a compression ring and an RLX titanium case back as elements of the construction; the watch also has a helium escape valve.
Rolex says each Deepsea is tested with a 25% safety margin. For a 3,900-metre rating, that corresponds to pressure equivalent to 4,875 metres during testing. This is a product specification and test margin, not a recommendation that a person dive to that depth. The helium escape valve serves saturation divers, allowing helium to escape from the case during decompression.

Black dial or D-blue?
The 126660 was presented in both a black-dial version and a D-blue version, whose dial shifts from blue to black. The D-blue design connects to the Deepsea’s history: Rolex says it was introduced in 2014 to commemorate James Cameron’s DEEPSEA CHALLENGE expedition. The dial choice does not change the watch’s stated depth rating or core specifications.

The practical distinction is a combination of movement and revised proportions, rather than a change in the Deepsea’s defining depth capability.

The wider bracelet and reworked lugs change the watch’s visual balance and may affect how it sits, but wearer comfort cannot be inferred from those figures alone. Both references are extreme-depth instruments; the greater depth rating relative to most watches is not automatically an advantage for ordinary daily wear.

Contemporaneous reports gave different launch prices by market and currency. Monochrome reported EUR 11,200 for the black dial and EUR 11,450 for D-blue; SJX reported US$12,250 and US$12,550, respectively. These are reported 2018 launch prices, not current authorized-retailer prices or today’s second-hand values.
