The Citizen Series 8 830 Mechanical NA1015-81Z pairs a 40 mm grey-plated steel case with a distinctive layered mother-of-pearl dial and the automatic Cal. 0950 movement. Its headline specifications include a 50-hour maximum power reserve, 16,000 A/m magnetic resistance and 10-bar water resistance. It has a compelling design and a practical spec sheet, but the available prices are tied to different markets and dates—not a reliable guide to what it costs locally today.
What is the Citizen NA1015-81Z?
NA1015-81Z is the grey-plated version of Citizen’s Series 8 830 Mechanical. The 2021 global announcement identifies it as a 40.0 mm-wide, 11.7 mm-thick automatic watch. Citizen Hong Kong lists its weight as 165 g; that figure is from the regional product page, not a separately measured review result. The case and bracelet are grey-plated stainless steel, and the crystal is spherical sapphire with anti-reflective treatment.
The watch is angular and sporty-chic in appearance. In a hands-on published 25 August 2021, Brice Goulard of Monochrome Watches noted the case’s mix of brushed and polished surfaces and its partially integrated bracelet. He also described an angled lug module that makes the watch feel compact. These are the reviewer’s impressions, rather than measurements of fit on different wrists.
How does the dial look?
The dial is the NA1015-81Z’s signature feature. Citizen describes a three-part construction: a metal dial at the base, a mother-of-pearl layer above it, and a metal lattice carrying the indexes on top. The lattice gives the face visible depth, while the pearl adds a changeable, reflective surface. Goulard observed blue shifts and shimmer as light moved across it, and called the dial the watch’s most daring design element.

- 3 Hand, Day / Date
- Rose Gold-Tone Stainless Steel
- Mineral Crystal
- 100 Meters Water Resistant and 5 Year Limited Warranty
This is a design-led dial rather than a plain, low-key layout. Whether the layered look is an advantage depends on taste; the available hands-on account praises its character but does not provide a formal legibility test.
Movement and performance specifications
Citizen’s Cal. 0950 is an automatic movement with hand winding and 24 jewels. When fully wound, its maximum running time is approximately 50 hours. Citizen gives an average daily accuracy specification of −5 to +10 seconds, measured in a stationary condition, and cautions that actual results can fall outside that range depending on use. It is a manufacturer specification, not a measured result for an individual NA1015-81Z.

The 10-bar rating is a water-resistance specification; the cited materials do not identify the watch as a dive-certified model. Likewise, the magnetic-resistance figure is a published specification, not evidence of testing under every real-world exposure.

It is a strong candidate if you want an expressive dial, angular finishing and a compact-feeling sports-watch design, and you value a 50-hour maximum reserve alongside published magnetic resistance and 10-bar water resistance. Its specific value depends on the current asking price where you live: the historical US and Japanese launch prices and Hong Kong’s regional page price do not establish today’s local deal.

The closest comparison established within the Series 8 line is the silver-finished 830 Mechanical NA1010-84X. Compare the two in person or through current local listings for case and bracelet finish, dial appearance and price. The NA1015-81Z’s grey plating is confirmed, but the available evidence does not establish how that coating will wear or resist scratches over time. There is also no sourced basis here for a value ranking against Swiss or other-brand competitors.
Before buying, check how the 40 mm case and bracelet sit on your wrist, whether the layered dial suits your taste, and the seller’s local service and warranty arrangements. Servicing cost, long-term accuracy, fit on any particular wrist and coating durability are not established by the published specifications or cited hands-on review.
